Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls "Pitch (Lob)"

Chicago Bulls "Pitch (Lob)"

Gibson Pyper 02/04/2016

My good friend Zak Boisvert made a great Pitch Series video of Hoiberg's pitch action. This is an option off this series in which the opposite corner empties out and cuts ballside, and Butler receives a backscreen for a lob. We saw this action at Iowa State and it has continued into the NBA with the Bulls as well. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Flip Baseline Exit

Dallas Mavericks - Flip Baseline Exit

Chandler Parsons is not just a great salesman when it comes to attracting free agents to his team, but he is also a great salesman on the basketball court. In this misdirection action for a short corner look, Parsons does a great job of acting like he is cutting across the baseline and turns around right in time to receive a screen from Saleh Mejri. This is another good example of a coach knowing where his players like to score from and getting them an easy look. See More

Basketball Play - Bulls Pitch Backscreen Lob

Bulls Pitch Backscreen Lob

Fred Hoiberg has run the pitch series for several years, both at Iowa State and now with the Chicago Bulls. Because teams will often sag off the trailer when he has the ball, it makes him the perfect candidate to throw a lob pass. The Bulls run the play to get Jimmy Butler an alley oop with all the extra attention he gets on the perimeter. See More

Basketball Play - Jazz Pitch 13 High

Jazz Pitch 13 High

Adam Spinella 01/29/2016

Quin Snyder and the Utah Jazz run this great pitch into a ball screen, where the man defending the screen-setter has a difficult time providing a hedge. The guard who gives the pitch cuts straight off a down screen, which -- if hedged by the defense -- puts them in terrible position to defend the ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Pistons Pitch Side Ballscreen

Pistons Pitch Side Ballscreen

Adam Spinella 01/29/2016

The pitch series is difficult to defend because usually the man defending the trailer is too far off the point of the handoff to give any type of resistence. The natural counter when a defender starts to meet the trailer high is for that trailer to swing the ball to the side and run straight into a side ball screen. The Pistons have run this action for Ersan Ilyasova this season. See More

A 4 High set the Maryland Terrapins are running inspired by the old Jerry Sloan UCLA series of sets. Also ran in recent years by the Indiana Pacers, this set has plenty of options throught the progression, gets lay up, mid range and, 3 pointer looks. See More
