Basketball Play - Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Double Stagger Counter

Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Double Stagger Counter

Dave Nedbalek 08/27/2018

This is a counter from the base action I diagramed entitled, "Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy." This is a very simple yet effective counter you can run with this set. The video below is not of this set itselft, but the base horns floppy action. 5 will attempt to bury defender as 2 comes off screen. While this is happening, 1 and 4 set a double stagger screen away for 3 in the corner. This is a great time for several things: 1) 5 in a post isolation situation while help side is working through the stagger. 2) Obviously a 3pt opportunity for 3 if you have a 5 that garners a lot of attention. 3) While the stagger is occuring, if 5 were to sprint into a side ball screen for 2, that would leave 2 a wide open driving line off of a reject of 5's screen. Loyola Chicago - Box Pin Stagger/Dive

This set isnt run smoothly in the clip attached but again, you can see the action setup. The backdoor cut to finish the set isnt run very intentionally here but I think is a great counter with all of the fixation on the shooter coming off of the stagger and the help being occupied with that. Basketball Play - Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

I am not convinced this is a set play but I do love this action that led to the outcome. Marquette does a great job of creating triangles with defenders and gaps in their zone offense which puts the defense in decision situations where they will be wrong regardless of how they cover it. Marquette - Diamond Husky ISO SLOB

This is a great set for multiple looks. Obviously it is defended well but you can see the scoring opportunities very easily. My critique of this video is the pace with which Marquette runs it. I'd love to see 2 already sprinting as 3 pops for the catch. I also would like 4 and 5 to shape up after the screen as the switching left a mismatch somewhere. You could even have 4 and 5 cross screen to enhance this set. More on the FMS blog: NCAA Preseason Top 25 XsOs Click to view all plays by Coach Dave Nedbalek! See More

Basketball Play - Maryland Terrapins - Basic Motion

Maryland Terrapins - Basic Motion

This is an attempt to scout an initial action that Marlyand will start their true motion with. They run a true free flowing motion offense which has very little consistent patterns, and consists of many off ball screens and various combinations of those. This is a great offense in terms of the inability to scout it, and the constant burden of communication it places on the defense.
