Curl Hammer
05/15/2015This play that the Washington Wizards ran at the end of Game 4 for Paul Pierce is one of my new favorites. It is very simple yet extremely effective as a misdirection. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this box set out-of-bounds play, there are 2 options to score. Option 1) 5 sets a back-screen for 3 who cuts to the rim. If 3 isn't open, 2 passes to 4 on the wing. Once 4 has the ball, 2 cuts to the left wing off of a screen from 3 under the basket. The ball is reversed to 2 for a shot. Option 2) 2 passes the ball into 4 on the wing. 4 passes to 1 then screens down for 2. 2 cuts to the right wing for a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this box set, 3 pops out to the corner and gets the inbounds pass from 2. 3 then dribbles up towards the top of the key off of a ball-screen from 1 as 2 cuts to the opposite wing off of a double cross-screen from 4 and 5. If 2 isn't open, he cuts into the lane and 1 cuts to the left corner off of 4 and 5's screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw1 cuts across the lane then out to the perimeter and gets the inbounds pass from 2. Once 1 has the ball, he starts to dribble left as 5 and 4 set a double down-screen for 2. 1 turns back to pass to 2 for a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawStruggling to score against Golden State in Game 5, Dave Joerger called a timeout and setup a nice "Blind Pig" set to get an easy score. Knowing that Golden State was playing aggressive and overhelping on any screen that a guard cut off of, he had Gasol flash to the high post after Conley exited the screen and received the ball. After he caught the ball, Conley cut backdoor with his man on the high side, and Gasol hit him with a nice backdoor pass for a floater. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAlong the lines of Randy Wittman, Kerr likes to run the Hammer set to get his players open, and in true Kerr style he runs a nice counter out of this set. Having Mo Speights (stretch 5) set the Hammer screen knowing his defender would be prone to sag off and help, and then opens up for a jump shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the playoffs, alot of teams attack mismatches, and Golden State has been no different. This postseason when the first option off the backscreen is covered, he had Klay Thompson & Harrison Barnes both post up against weaker opponent guarding them. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother quick hitter from the Wizards game in Game 4 to get Paul Pierce an easy layup. As the ball is brought up on the wing, Beal sets a "Rip" screen for Pierce and then comes off a double screen. Because of the shooting ability of Beal, he frees up Pierce by screening and then cutting off a double screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWith John Wall going down with an injury, the Wizards turned to Bradley Beal to be a facilitator and scorer in his absence. Wittman setup a nice set to create movement and to get Beal coming off a dribble handoff and get an open look. First Beal passes to the wing and then cuts off a UCLA screen from the big at the elbow, and then sits down in the post. The guard on the wing passes to the elbow and sets a down screen for Beal who then receives a dribble handoff from the big and looks to attack. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawUse four-player shell drill to teach all aspects of defensive postioning. Help defenders should follow line rules. Defensive players should jump to the pass as the ball moves. When players are one pass away they are in deny. When on the ball, influence to the appropriate checkpoint. Drill Advancement: Drive gaps and practice "plugging with your butt." Attack baseline an practice help and help the helper Weakside exchange from offensive players Screen away Skip passes to drill closeouts. See More

Follow Line Rules when ball is on the wings. Drill Advancements: Players dribble below the FT line Point attacks a gap. Wings attack baseline Pass and screen away. Pass and ball screen. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawEven when the Rockets weren't punishing the Mavericks in round one with the Josh Smith-Dwight Howard pick and roll combination, they still found ways to take advantage of the defense and connect for lobs. This is a simple 1-4 high pick, with a throwback to Smith. He immediately goes into Side P/R action with James Harden, or DHO in this case. This is hard work for x4, Dirk, who shows hard on the DHO. Note the 1 and 3 switching spots on the weakside, which makes x1, JJ Barea, the low defender. As Harden hits Smith on the roll, x5 must pull over to stop the drive. JJ Barea is sitting on Howard's top leg like he is supposed to be, but that hardly matters. This is an easy Smith to Howard lob. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHouston used this play multiple times in the 1st round series against the Dallas Mavericks. Josh Smith and Dwight Howard posed massive problems defensively for the Mavericks with this play. Dwight Howard slipped or rolled hard for multiple lobs, sealed x4 when the defense switched, and even sealed on a switch and then spun out again for a lob. Add in Josh Smith's ability to finish with his running left hook in the lane, and this play caused fits for the defense. See More
