About This Play/Drill

This play, a staple of the San Antonio Spurs offense for years, has become a pet-play of Nick Nurse’s to start the game or half. Put into the Raptors playbook in the middle of the season, this play is used for Kawhi Leonard, Pascal Siakam, and Marc Gasol to get a post touch.

The first option is for a post-up to score, but the second option/counter involves a kickout pass to leverage aggressive off-ball defense against itself.

  • 1 passes to 4, 1 makes a shallow cut, as the ball is reversed to the weak side of the floor (from 4 to 5 to 1)
  • 3 uses a cross screen from 2. 1 can pass to 3 in the post, or to 2 using the down screen.
  • If the ball is passed to 2 without a shooting opportunity, 2 passes to 5 at the pinch post. 3 uses a screen from 1 and gets DHO from 5 at the Elbow.
