About This Play/Drill

The Toronto Raptors' mandate to reset their culture has permeated through their playbook with plays such as this. While Dwane Casey still uses much of his playbook from previous seasons, the Raptors have implemented continuity actions that have less defined outcomes than in years past. This action is run with their starting lineup, as well as their revered bench unit.

  • 1 pass-and-chase with trailing 5
  • 5 sets a wide pindown for 2. If 2 gets an advantage, 1 passes to 2 to finish play. If no advantage is created, play progresses to next action.
  • 2 exits to weak side. 1 enters ball to 5 at the elbow. 1 and 5 can engage in DHO. If an advantage is created, 5 or 1 can finish play with typical ball screen reads. If no advantage created, play progresses to next action.
  • 3 shoots up to the top of the arc and receives a pass from 5. 4 sets a flat step-up ball screen for 3.
  • Counter: Instead of using a step up ball screen for 3, 2 uses a staggered screen.
  • Counter: Instead of using a wide pindown, the pass-and-chase flows directly into a high ball screen with the big in the opposite slot.
