Tips and techniques for defending the high post within the Pressure Man-To-Man concept demonstrated in this 1v1 High Post Drill.
Phase 1 - Shifting
X5 assumes a top pass denial position ("ear on chest") against 5 with near hand ("stop sign") in passing lane. X5 must be alert to the over the top lob pass to 5.
If/when 1 passes to 2, X5 moves behind to opposite side of 5 switching "stop signs." X5 also prevents any roll cut to the basket by 5.
Phase 1B - Shifting
If/when 2 makes a return pass to 1, X5 changes sides on 5 maintaining an "ear on chest" denial position. X5 must move on airtime of the ball!
Back Door Cut - If/when 5 receives ball with back to the basket X5 plays off (arms length) and defends the passing lane to 2 on back door cut.
Phase 3 - Live 1-on-1
If no back door, 2 cuts through and out...
If/when 5 turns and faces up to basket, 5 steps up and JAMS. X5 pushes 5 to corner checkpoint on dribble. Play continues until offense scores or defense gains ball possession.
