About This Play/Drill

This drill utilizes the Dr. Dish shooting machine to facilitate a continuous flow of shooting repetition with variation for three shooters. Variation parameters are location (i.e., shooting angle), ball handling moves and initiating dribble hand. Each shooter takes three consecutive shots to establish a repetition rhythm and allow a short refinement opportunity. Ball handling variations include different crossovers, combinations and counters. The drill framework can be used for other ball handling and shooting footwork movements, as well.

  • SHOOT OFF THE BOUNCE:

    - 3 shooters (S1, S2 & S3) begin in the right corner at spot 1

    - Dr. Dish is programmed to throw 9 passes (with 3 seconds between each pass) to each of the 10 spots around the perimeter

    - From the first spot, the first shooter (S1) will take 3 consecutive shots, followed by the second shooter (S2) and then the third shooter (S3)

    - They will then proceed to the second spot, repeat the sequence and continue on in this fashion until they reach spot 10 in the other corner

    - From the first 5 spots on the right side, the shooters will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their right side. They must then catch the ball with only the right hand, bounce it to the floor once and quickly shoot it

    - For spots 6 through 10 on the left side, they will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their left side. They must then catch the ball with only the left hand, bounce it to the floor once and quickly shoot it

    - On the return trip around the perimeter from spot 9 back to the right corner, the shooters will bounce with the right hand from spots 9 through 6, and then the left hand from spots 5 through 1

    - This completes the first round

  • ADD THE FRONT CROSS & THE DOUBLE:

    - 3 shooters (S1, S2 & S3) begin in the right corner at spot 1

    - Dr. Dish is programmed to throw 9 passes (with 5 seconds between each pass) to each of the 10 spots around the perimeter

They must then catch the ball with only the right hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a front cross and shuffle step to the left and quickly shoot it

    - For spots 6 through 10 on the left side, they will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their left side. They must then catch the ball with only the left hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a front cross and shuffle step to the right and quickly shoot it

    - On the return trip around the perimeter, the shooters will bounce with the left hand and execute a double front cross shuffle from spots 9 through 6. Then, from spots 5 through 1, they will bounce with the right hand and execute a double front cross shuffle to finish this second round

  • ADD THROUGH THE LEGS & THEN COMBO:

    - 3 shooters (S1, S2 & S3) begin in the right corner at spot 1

    - Dr. Dish is programmed to throw 9 passes (with 5 seconds between each pass) to each of the 10 spots around the perimeter

They must then catch the ball with only the right hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a through the legs crossover with shuffle step to the left and quickly shoot it

    - For spots 6 through 10 on the left side, they will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their left side. They must then catch the ball with only the left hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a through the legs crossover with shuffle step to the right and quickly shoot it

    - On the return trip around the perimeter, the shooters will bounce with the left hand and execute a through the legs crossover with shuffle step into a front crossover and pullup shot from spots 9 through 6. Then, from spots 5 through 1, they will bounce with the right hand and execute a through the legs crossover with shuffle step into a front crossover and pullup shot to finish this third round

  • ADD BEHIND THE BACK & THEN THE DOUBLE:

    - 3 shooters (S1, S2 & S3) begin in the right corner at spot 1

    - Dr. Dish is programmed to throw 9 passes (with 5 seconds between each pass) to each of the 10 spots around the perimeter

They must then catch the ball with only the right hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a behind the back crossover with shuffle step to the left and quickly shoot it

    - For spots 6 through 10 on the left side, they will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their left side. They must then catch the ball with only the left hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a behind the back crossover with shuffle step to the right and quickly shoot it

    - On the return trip around the perimeter, the shooters will bounce with the left hand and execute a double behind the back crossover with shuffle steps (i.e., "look and lean") into a pullup shot from spots 9 through 6. Then, from spots 5 through 1, they will bounce with the right hand and execute a double behind the back crossover with shuffle steps (i.e., "look and lean") into a pullup shot to finish this fourth round

  • ADD SPIN AND SHOOT & THEN THE COUNTER:

    - 3 shooters (S1, S2 & S3) begin in the right corner at spot 1

    - Dr. Dish is programmed to throw 9 passes (with 5 seconds between each pass) to each of the 10 spots around the perimeter

They must then catch the ball with only the right hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a lateral spin and shoot move (i.e., separational spin). [note: Be sure the bounce hand pulls the ball into the spin until the swing foot contacts the floor before touching the ball with the other hand to avoid a travel violation.]

    - For spots 6 through 10 on the left side, they will position themselves such that the ball arrives slightly to their left side. They must then catch the ball with only the left hand, bounce it to the floor once, execute a lateral spin and shoot move (i.e., separational spin). [note: Be sure the bounce hand pulls the ball into the spin until the swing foot contacts the floor before touching the ball with the other hand to avoid a travel violation.]

    - On the return trip around the perimeter, the shooters will bounce with the left hand and execute a fake spin move (i.e., spin and spin back) into a pullup shot from spots 9 through 6. Then, from spots 5 through 1, they will bounce with the right hand and execute the fake spin into a pullup shot to finish this fourth round
