About This Play/Drill

Here is a combination transition and ballhandling drill. Use this drill a couple time a week. Players will improve their ability to catch on the run, make a basket and get them in a habit of running the floor.

  • Basketball Play - 3 line layups
  • Basketball Play - 3 line layups
  • 1 starts with the ball under the basket and starts the drill by throwing the ball to 3. Each player is allowed one dribble once receiving the ball. 3 throws cross court to 2. After the layup, shooter takes ball out of the net and starts the drill going to the other end of the floor.
  • The player who made the pass that led to the layup runs to touch the baseline. After touching the baseline then turns to run to the opposite end to receive the pass for the layup. The player who started the drill by making the first pass touches the other baseline and receives the outlet going up the other end of the floor.
  • Drill ends after each player has taken a layup. Place emphasis on touching the baselines after making a pass. This makes running the floor a priority. It will provide more game like situations of sprinting  the length of the floor. Make sure players take the ball out of the net before it hits the floor.
