Houston used this play multiple times in the 1st round series against the Dallas Mavericks. Josh Smith and Dwight Howard posed massive problems defensively for the Mavericks with this play. Dwight Howard slipped or rolled hard for multiple lobs, sealed x4 when the defense switched, and even sealed on a switch and then spun out again for a lob. Add in Josh Smith's ability to finish with his running left hook in the lane, and this play caused fits for the defense. See More

Normally Curry brings the ball up the floor, but in this set the player they want to try and free up for a layup (often the 3 man such as Barnes or Iguadola) will bring the ball up. The player bringing the ball up will pass to trailing big man and receives a backscreen from Curry, looking to get a layup off the screen is the first option. If the man is covered on the backscreen, Curry then receives a dribble hand off from the big who then rolls to the rim. The second option is great because Curry's man has to help or at least show to prevent a layup, allowing Curry to come off the dribble handoff typically unimpeded. See More

Butler used this play mid-way through the second half and got a good look on dribble penetration after the flare screen. The play starts with dribble entry to the right as 2 and 3 switch sides of the floor. The first scoring option is 3 in the corner for a shot. If that isn't open, 1 passes to 4 at the opposite elbow. From here, 4 can shoot if open or take his man to the basket. The third scoring option is to pass to 1 flaring to the wing. Here is a play from Wednesday night's game between Dayton and Boise State. Very similar to his brother at Arizona, Archie Miller runs great combinations of actions to get open shots for his best players. In this play, the Flyers spread out along the perimeter and the point guard brings the ball up the right side of the floor. 5, who is trailing the play, moves in to set a drag screen for 1. The initial pick and roll is set to get a good look at Kendall Pollard inside (with the rest of the team on the 3-point line). If Pollard isn't open inside, he clears to the corner as a flare screen is set for the point guard (or best shooter). I saw Jordan Sibert and Scoochie Smith come off of this flare screen in the game. VCU ran this BLOB set late in the 2nd half against Ohio State who was playing man defense. VCU got a wide open layup from their 5 that was missed. In the set 2/3 use a double screen from 4/5. The first man through (2) goes to the corners immediately followed by the second cut (3) who goes to the wing. As the final cut is made the 5 dives to the rim. This set originally comes from the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich. Originally a set designed to get Tim Duncan an open jumper by setting a down screen and allowing him to catch at the elbow. This set has been adapted by this years Golden State Warriors, the 2013-14 Miami Heat & this years Philadelphia 76ers! This set is great if you have a stretch 4 or a 4 man who can handle and pass well, and a big man who can shoot it. The Heat ran a nice counter out of it for Ray Allen, after he set the down screen for Bosh, he would come off a baseline screen to look for a shot. See More

This is a very basic early offense option that Houston used against Dallas in the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs. The drag screen typically involves the point guard and one or both bigs, but here Josh Smith is the ballhandler and coming off of a screen from Dwight Howard to his strong left hand. The NBA 4 man is not used to defending the ballhandler in a P/R, and Howard rolls hard to the rim always looking for a lob, making this an extremely difficult cover for the defense. Chris Paul has really hurt the San Antonio Spurs in this years playoffs running this PNR Set. Doc Rivers called it "45" from the sideline (hand motion 4-5 blinking) and this set has allowed Chris Paul to attack off the PNR very well. Both bigs start at the elbows, and then flash near half court at the same time setting a ballscreen on each side for Chris Paul to attack off of. They have options where a big turns, but the main reason this set works is due to the fact that San Antonio likes to pressure high. It forces the bigs to make a decision and does not allow a guard to go under the ballscreen. See More

In this 1-4 high play from the Wizards, they use multiple hand-off options around Gortat to look for quick shot. If neither hand-off option is there, Pierce and Wall set a screen for Nene at the elbow as he dives down to the low post. If Nene isn't open, Gortat kicks the ball out to Beal. Gortat then screens down for Wall who cuts to the top of the key for a shot. See More
