Basketball Play - Beating a Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse

Beating a Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse

Shannon Clancy 04/18/2018

Concept - Beating A Zone Press Using Side / Middle / Reverse There are many ways to break full court pressure - and they can change based on the type of pressure you're facing. Whatever you decide, remember these three words - side, middle, reverse. When playing tough full court zone pressure teams it can sometimes feel as if there's 12 defenders on the court - but of course there are only 5, and 2 of them are guarding one player. This leaves 3 players to guard your remaining 4, and at least one of them will likely start long, protecting the rim. Jr. Wizards Coaches Manual See More

Basketball Play - Smash vs Match-up Zone

Smash vs Match-up Zone

Rory Hamilton 03/26/2018

"Smash" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone Defense. The key to this play is to make bottom defender of zone commit to either the dribble or wing shooter coming to the corner. The goal is to seal off the middle of the zone and bring the other post player low for a layup. Blog Post: Keys to Attacking a Match-up Zone See More

Basketball Play - Flood C vs Match-up Zone

Flood C vs Match-up Zone

Rory Hamilton 03/26/2018

"Flood C" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone Defense. It is the counter to "Flood" and is run to get a 3pt shot from the corner. The play begins the same way as flood and the action stays the same. Where this play differs from Flood is that instead of throwing back to the 1 after the drag dribble, 2 throws it right back to the 4. 5 sets a screen on the bottom of the zone and 3 comes back ball side looking to catch and shoot behind 5's screen. This play was #7 on the most downloaded plays of 2018! Check out the full list and download the playbook: The Top 25 Plays of 2018 The Kansas Jayhawks used this after timeout play during their Elite Eight game to get 5 a wide open basket at the rim. 1 passes to 2 causing x5 to shift with the ball. 5 sets the ball screen for 2. As 2 passes the ball to 1, 4 screens x5 in the middle of the zone. Kansas put a good shooter in the corner (3), making x4 stay with him. This opens up 5 for the layup off the pass from 1.
