Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - Stagger DHO

Boston Celtics - Stagger DHO

Matt Wheeler 10/19/2021

The Boston Celtics new head coach, Ime Udoka, ran this ATO to get Dennis Schroeder (2) an opportunity to use his quickness to attack the basket to create a play. Schroeder's speed comes in handy as he cuts off a screen and a dribble handoff to get the ball and attack the basket. Even though the Miami Heat switched the dribble handoff, Shroeder had too much momentum and was easily able to blow by the defender and create a shot for a three in the corner. Video clip below. Basketball Play - Gonzaga Bulldogs - Side DHO Flare Lob SPNR

Gonzaga Bulldogs - Side DHO Flare Lob SPNR

Ander Isuskiza 03/21/2021

Gonzaga has been the best team in the NCAA on half court offense (1.059 PPP). Plus, they rank 4th on After Time Out plays with 1.090 PPP. Some key points to take into account: · Jalen Suggs as an elite player (lottery): he can generate for teammates and drive to the basket. · Drew Timme is one of the best centers in the league, specially on the low post and playing pick & roll. · Corey Kispert can score heavily from downtown, but also cuts proficiently (1.536 PPP) so he can punish cheating defenses. · They like to run side DHO and PNR with empty corner, so they have plenty of space and 3P threat from the weak side. Basketball Play - Clear - Ball Screen Reject ATO

Clear - Ball Screen Reject ATO

Dustin Cooper 12/13/2018

Rejecting ball screens is a creative way to get your players to drive downhill. I like to use this set after a timeout after seeing how a team is defending ball screens. The more times a team has seen ball screens, the more likely they are to get caught cheating the screen allowing your player to reject the screen and get to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - 2 Baseline Flare

2 Baseline Flare

Matt Barnthouse 06/07/2018

If there is one thing coach Andy Kennedy loves in his offense, it is off ball screens that set up corner threes. His Ole Miss teams made a living off of this play. In my four years with the Ole Miss Rebels, I got to see sharpshooters like Marshall Henderson and Stefan Moody run this play to perfection, helping them reach All-SEC nods. There are a lot of moving parts here. It starts off with a dribble handoff to the 3, while the 2 makes a cut to the paint on the weakside. Once in the paint, the 2 sets a screen for the one, and then makes a cut underneath the defender of the 4, forcing his man to either chase him or go over. If he goes over, the defender is ready to run straight into a flare screen by the 4. What makes this play work is that it bunches up the defense and forces them to make a lot of decisions. Sure, the defenders can switch, but that leaves a mismatch with a 2 having to defend a 4. The 2 defender could cheat on the initial cut around the 5, but then that allows the 2 to make reverse his cut to the corner, where the 3 can hit him on the weakside for a 3. If all else fails, the 1 comes around ready to reset the offense at the end of all of the actions. This is something that when ran well, can be nearly impossible to stop. The only concern is that some players may have difficulties going straight from a cut to catch and shoot (almost a 180), so athleticism helps. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Flip PNR

Cleveland Cavaliers - Flip PNR

Matt Wheeler 05/31/2018

The Cleveland Cavaliers have taken a page out of the playbook from LeBron James' time with the Miami Heat to put him in a situation where he can attack the basket and create out of a ball screen. The pindown screen for 1 and the pass back to James (3) sets 1 up for the flare screen. x5 has to stay back on the flare screen from 5 to protect against a layup from 1. This puts x5 in a drop coverage where he has to contain the ball as James come off the ball screen from 5. 5 rolls to the basket to look for the layup as 4 and 2 provide spacing on the weak side. Basketball Play - San Antonio Spurs - Pin Down Ball Screen Pop

San Antonio Spurs - Pin Down Ball Screen Pop

Andy Stark 11/22/2017

The Spurs were very effective with this SLOB against the Heat. Lamarcus Aldrige was playing the 4 spot in this lineup, Danny Green was at the 2, Gasol at the 5, Patty Mills at the 1, and Kyle Anderson took the ball out as the 3. Your best shooter is opposite of where the ball is being inbounded. Your best ball handler or decision maker comes off the pindown. Your most skilled big sets the ball screen and pop. The big does not want to roll in this situation (unless the defense switches little on big) to enable the spacing that the guard needs to get down hill to make a decision to score. See More

Basketball Play - Spead Series - Floppy

Spead Series - Floppy

Diccon Lloyd-Smeath 11/08/2017

Iberostar Tenerife Coach Txus Vidoretta runs a creative use of 5 Out, Lithuania Break to enter Floppy. With every action in the Spread Series, if there is no advantage, it flows straight into a Spread Ball Screen. In this case, running the full action means the defender on the screen is late to hedge and the on-ball defender cheats under - leading to an instant re-screen and a dunk for the roll man. See More

Basketball Play - Detroit Pistons - EOG SLOB Circle 3

Detroit Pistons - EOG SLOB Circle 3

Matt Wheeler 07/06/2017

The Detroit Pistons were down 3 with 2.8 seconds left in their summer league game against the Miami Heat. The Pistons ran a play on the previous possession which got 4 an open look at a three point shot. 4 was the decoy in this play, running baseline off the double screen. 1 then circles around 2 then screens for him. 2 cuts off the screens from 1 and 5 to receive the pass from 3 to take the shot.
