Basketball Play - 1 v 1 Contact Finishing

1 v 1 Contact Finishing

Jordan Petersen 07/18/2017

Defender stands at the elbow facing the basket. Offense is on the baseline and dribbles out to the defender and goes around the defender. Once the offense turns the corner it is live. Offense is getting shoulder tip hip/chest and trying to cut off or veer defense to finish. ADD ON: Dribble decision making/change of direction move can be added. Defender can lift up right or left arm to signal what way the offense must go around. See More

Basketball Play - 5 CONTINUOUS GAME-LIKE FINISHING MOVES

5 CONTINUOUS GAME-LIKE FINISHING MOVES

Marc Skelton 10/27/2015

This continuous game-like finishing drill works on 5 different moves from 5 different spots on the floor. These moves can be attempted at different spots using left or right hands. This drill also helps develop footwork (pivots), rip through, and ball fakes. We name the moves after NBA players as it is easier to remember and embrace. Bonus:1) Add Euro step 2) Add a blocking pad to finish with contact. See More

Basketball Play - 5 Spot Finishing

5 Spot Finishing

Kyle Gilreath 07/04/2013

At Fort Myers High School we run the Read and React Offense from Better Basketball. If you are not familiar with the offense it consists of five spots that should always be filled. If your defenders feet are above the three point line (Read Line) and you are one pass away we tell our players to immediately cut back door. With that in mind this morning I put a couple of our guys through a grueling session of finishing moves which incorporates this concept. When finishing from the sides I like to teach my players to get their shoulders parallel with the baseline to product themselves and the ball from a defender. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Finishing

Michigan Finishing

Daniel Murphy 04/23/2013

Demonstrated by Michigan's John Beilein at a clinic. Great drill for first step explosion and finishing with contact and defensive pressure. 1 must explode past the defender in order to get 2 on his/her hip. Then finish strong at the rim. 2 should contest but not get in the habit of fouling. See More

Basketball Play - The Post Pit Drill

The Post Pit Drill

Matt Hackenberg 01/13/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a post play drill. This drill really works on sealing for position inside before catching the ball, and then provides some repetitions finishing inside against live defense. The drill can become a nice conditioning drill if a player is to get stuck in the pit for a while. Basketball Play - Drill: Interior Touch Series

Drill: Interior Touch Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we go through a series of drills we used with our post players during our guard/post breakdown portion of practice. We believed that using these basic drills on a regular basis would improve the footwork and touch of our interior players. We used medicine balls instead of basketballs while we filmed this, but that was not a regular occurrence. Basketball Play - Warrior Rebounding Drill

Warrior Rebounding Drill

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we get a drill we used during our positional breakdown portion of practice for our post players. It teaches rebounding, offense and defense in some capacity, and challenges player’s endurance. I really like how it teaches players how to create shots inside with limited space.
