Basketball Play - Turkey Defensive Drill

Turkey Defensive Drill

Jordan Petersen 07/09/2018

Drill to work on defensive toughness. Defense must get 3 defensive stops in a row before they are off and a new defensive team can start. Can add that defenses must change defense every possession (zone, man, how they will defend ball screen, double post, etc.). Click for more #PlayerDevelopmentWeek content! See More

Basketball Play - Situational 3v3

Situational 3v3

Michael Shaughnessy 07/08/2018

Here are some of the situational 3v3 games I use with players to put them in different spots on the floor and in different actions. These situations are designed to develop players' decision making with and without the basketball on offense, and develop a player's understanding of defensive rotations and guarding common actions at the high school/college level. Basketball Play - Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Tony Miller 07/06/2018

This multipurpose drill works on both defense and offense. Players must react quickly when the coach chooses a player to throw the ball to on either block. The player on offense must score at the basket against immediate pressure. The player on defense attempts to prevent a basket without fouling. Make the drill competitive by keeping score (defensive stops, made baskets, etc.). Click for more #PlayerDevelopmentWeek content! See More

Basketball Play - Player Development: Diamond Defensive Drill

Player Development: Diamond Defensive Drill

Tony Miller 07/06/2018

I firmly believe that every team should work on defensive closeouts and lateral slides in some way EVERY practice. This drill incorporates both of these skills into one drill. Coaches can set up multiple diamonds on the court. Have each player go 3-4 times then switch with a partner. Make the drill competitive by timing players. Basketball Play - Dribble Drive Motion: Finishing at the Rim

Dribble Drive Motion: Finishing at the Rim

Michael Lynch 07/04/2018

As part of #PlayerDevelopmentWeek I am putting together a series of drill progressions that we use in order to develop skills to fit our Dribble Drive Motion Offense. In this second installment we are looking at "Finishing at the Rim". What we are hoping for our players is that they can finish at the rim from multiple angles, and with a variety of finishes. The "1/0 Technique" Drill below makes our players finish from the three most common angles within our offense; 1) The Slot Drive, 2) The Wing Drive from the Corner, and the 3) Baseline Drive. We want our players to feel comfortable finishing with at least 1-2 different techniques from both their strong hand and their weak hand. So over the course of the season we will emphasize these finishes; 1) Extended Arm, 2) Scoop, 3) Inside Hand, 4) Stride Stop, 5) Jump Stops, & 6) Reverse Pivots. The "1/1 and 2/2 Russian" Drills are good once we have moved beyond the Phase A portion of finishing. Those two drills are not only fun for the players, but represent very common finishing opportunities within our offense, 1) The Slot Drive with an advantage and 2) The Drop Pass.
