Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Chicago Bulls - EOG Post Kickout 3

Matt Wheeler 07/20/2016

Down 3 with 3.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League championship game, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out of bounds play to get Denzel Valentine a clean look at a 3. This play uses the skip pass action that Brad Stevens has used at both Butler and the Boston Celtics in end game situations. The Bulls ran their own variation of the play that started with a decoy cross screen for Valentine instead of the zipper screen that Stevens uses. This action caused the defense to relax, thinking Valentine was covered after defending the initial cross screen successfully. The rescreen for Valentine then freed him up for the game tying shot. Basketball Play - L.A. Clippers 4 Snap

L.A. Clippers 4 Snap

Craig LeVasseur 04/16/2015

While the Celtics best utilized the Slice series with KG as the trail big, the Clippers prefer to have Blake Griffin start on the block. The Clippers used this setup to get Blake catches at his left block sweet spot. If the post up is not there, the 2 and 3 can play out 2nd side action for additional options. See More

Basketball Play - L.A. Clippers 4 Pop

L.A. Clippers 4 Pop

Craig LeVasseur 04/16/2015

Another set out of the Mike D’Antoni playbook, 4 Pop is designed for a shooting 4. While Blake Griffin has improved his midrange jumper each year, the main advantage of this set is putting Blake 1 on 1 against his usually slower defender at the top of the key. His driving ability makes this play an ideal Slice counter for the Clippers, and an option that the Celtics likely would not have been able to utilize with KG. A clear side P/R with Blake and CP3 is also a great 2nd option to have. See More

Basketball Play - Celtic EOG Stagger

Celtic EOG Stagger

Lucas Shapiro 02/12/2015

This is a sideline out-of-bounds play that Brad Stevens has been running for the Celtics late in games. It has been successful both times too. There is a little misdirection with the stagger screen that gives your team a great look for your shooting guard. It is tough to defend because of the multiple options it offers. See More

Basketball Play - Celtic 2

Celtic 2

John Leonzo 12/16/2013

Here is a play that the Celtics ran a little while back to get a basket against the Heat with little time left on the clock. Almost all of the action is false with the intent to get the 5 man to seal his defender to the outside so that a lob can be thrown over the top to the side of the floor where there is no help. This is a great play to run with little time left! See More

Basketball Play - "C"

"C"

Kyle Gilreath 09/26/2013

This is another action I watched last night while watching the 1987 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics. Pat Riley called out "C" as the Lakers jogged up court. 3 (Magic Johnson) came off a baseline rub that turned into a staggered pick & roll. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Punch

Elbow Punch

Kyle Gilreath 08/12/2013

During Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics, Doc Rivers ran this quick post-up action out of an elbow set. The key to this is having 3 push their defender over top or at least get them between themself and the rim in order to button hook into a post and seal. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle Quick

Triangle Quick

Kyle Gilreath 08/12/2013

Last night I wanted to get to bed early after moving all weekend but got caught watching the 2008 NBA Finals between the Lakers-Celtics, and I couldn't turn it off! This is an action out of Phil Jackson's Triangle Offense that allows for two simultaneous scoring cuts from Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. If the defense over helps on either screen slip 3 or 4 to the rim. See More
