Basketball Play - 1-3-1 Defense - BLOB Situations

1-3-1 Defense - BLOB Situations

Rory Hamilton 07/26/2016

BLOB Situations--Scouting and defending baseline situations man-to-man can be extremely difficult at times. More and more NCAA teams are utilizing a "diamond" or "1-3-1" alignment to defend BLOB situations. Syracuse and North Carolina both use this alignment when defending BLOB situations and teams usually just throw the ball all the way back into the back court to inbound the ball safely. See More

Basketball Play - Virginia - BLOB 4 Flat Flex

Virginia - BLOB 4 Flat Flex

Wes Kosel 07/23/2016

Coach Tony Bennett called this play to use flex action out of a baseline out-of-bounds situation. The ball is thrown in to 5 flashing up the lane line. The point guard then sets a flex screen for 4 in the corner. If 4 isn't open on the post up, 5 sets a down screen for 1 who cuts up towards the slot for a shot. See More

Basketball Play - Single Double BLOB

Single Double BLOB

Bert DeSalvo 05/31/2016

This set was put on the floor by Springfield College WBB during their practice on January 28, 2016 for an upcoming opponent. The single double action for the best shooter is a great way to allow players to read the defense and make the set less predictable. See More

Basketball Play - UNC M-M BLOB

UNC M-M BLOB

Kevin Bruinsma 05/20/2016

Down by six with 90 seconds left in the National Championship game North Carolina ran a quick hit baseline out of bounds play to get their best player #5 Paige an open 3-point look in the corner. He hit the shot and in a blink of an eye it went back to a one possession game. What I like about this Baseline out of bounds play is that it has a few options to get a lay-up that went un-noticed because Paige ended up hitting the 3 in the corner. The first action is the back screen set for the point guard to cut right to the rim for a quick entry pass and score. The second you don’t really see in the video due to the ball not reversing. If the pass would have been made to the top of the key to the 3 man who had set the back screen for 1, then 1 would have set a cross screen for the 5 man who had just set the screen to free up Paige for the shot. This put’s the 5’s defender in a really tough spot having to show or help on Paige then get screened going back the opposite way to an entire side cleared out for a post iso. See More

Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - BLOB Double Rip

Toronto Raptors - BLOB Double Rip

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

Innovative BLOB set by the Raptors. Most teams that run a double rip set usually run it for a bigger player. The Raptors run it here for a point guard. This can be a great action for teams who have bigger guards or who are looking to take advantage of a mismatch in the post. The Raptors have their 5 man set the first screen which is not an easy action to guard as majority of teams do not switch 1-5 and X1 has to fight over two screens. See More
