Basketball Play - Billy Donovan Horns Set

Billy Donovan Horns Set

Dana Beszczynski 11/25/2013

The Florida Gators are playing shorthanded right now, but once their line-up is complete, they will be a very exciting team to watch. Head Coach Billy Donovan has a wealth of experience and the way he runs his half court sets demonstrates this. Here is "America's play", a simple Horns action with a STS action at the end setting up either post entry or a possible jump shot. From here, the Gators go right into their Ball Screen Motion which they do a great job of executing. This play was taken from the Gators game against the Wisconsin Badgers during ESPN's 24 hour marathon. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA Bruins

UCLA Bruins

Dana Beszczynski 02/15/2016

UCLA started the game off against Arizona State trying to get Isaac Hamilton (18.2 ppg) their leading scorer a touch early. Starting out wide and receiving a wide screen from Welsh, Hamilton works into a dribble flip action and immediately receives a ball screen as the defense tried to fight over the screen, Hamilton got in the lane to score on the floater. Basketball Play - Duke Early Offense Action

Duke Early Offense Action

Dana Beszczynski 11/17/2016

Coach K is as good as it gets when it comes to set plays and putting his players in a position to best utilize their talents to score. This action they ran most of the night against Kansas with good consistency. With the trio of Guards at Coach K's disposal, the middle ball screen at the end of the set is lethal as the defense has to decide how and where to help from as you have shooters all around the perimeter and talented big men inside who can finish at the ring. The beginning of the play with the wide pin down can also lead to good reads of either flares or curls and then the backscreen sets up the possible lob action to the ring. See More

Basketball Play - Duke ATO - Hammer Action

Duke ATO - Hammer Action

Dana Beszczynski 11/17/2016

Duke ATO - DHO - WEAK SIDE HAMMER ACTION A great play from the Duke timeout utilizing the PG as your entry man at the elbow. 1 goes into a DHO with 3 out of the corner right into a ball screen by the 5 man moving across the FT line replacing 1 on the hand-off action. As 3 comes off the ball screen, 4 steps up to set the weak side Hammer Screen for 2 who drifts to the corner looking for a possible pass and shot attempt. Duke shows great shot clock management, as the primary option is not open, the ball gets reversed and thrown into the post. 2 Kennard makes a great read coming from the weak side corner, cutting to the FT line area making himself an option if the ball cannot be passed inside and showing the importance of moving without the ball. 1 & 2 exchange, ball gets kicked-out to 2 who cannot make a play. He throws the ball back inside, cuts into the lane for a possible give "n" go pass. 5 throws the ball out to 4 who dribble flips with 3 and sets a side ball screen. 2 Allen comes off the side ball screen action and gets a wide open jumper. A great look at how to utilize all options off a play and manage clock. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona Transition PNR Post Action

Arizona Transition PNR Post Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/18/2017

Sean Miller's Arizona Offense is very creative and provides his players with multiple cutting & scoring options. Out of this Transition action alone you have a DHO, Middle Ball Screen, and movement options that force the Defense into multiple rotations. At the end, the ability to have their 4 either step out to hit the jumper or post-up provides a finish to this action which is good for all levels of play. See More

Basketball Play - West Virginia Princeton Action

West Virginia Princeton Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

West Virginia used this Princeton type action last night against Gonzaga in their Sweet 16 match-up. Carter runs off the FT line screen into a double stagger looking to catch & shoot off the pass from the TOK. If there's no shot, he has the option to throw inside and the 5 man's down screen or exchange with 3 can also lead to a Hi / Lo off the wing pass to the FT Line area. The play closes with a corner ball screen action when the post has no attack option to the basket and the PG makes the read shooting behind the screen. See More

Basketball Play - Harvard DHO Iso

Harvard DHO Iso

Brandon Mullis 08/23/2015

Here is a set play ran by Tommy Amaker at Harvard. A slashing wing/guard would be ideal in the "3" spot in this diagram, with your best shooter as your "2" to force the defense to make a choice to take away the drive (and leave an open shot for 2 in the corner) or put a lot of pressure on 3's defender to keep him from getting to the rim in isolation after coming off the ball screen from 4. Basketball Play - Miami DHO Pin Down

Miami DHO Pin Down

Daniel Murphy 05/17/2013

Opening play ran by the Heat in their 94-91 closeout game 5 win over the Bulls 5/16/13. With two dynamic scores handing off and a potential Haslem ball screen the Bulls defense was focused on the strong side. Having Bosh pin down for Chalmers game him space to attack the hoop in the center off the court. Altough Boozer was guarding Haslem, and Haslem was standing on a wing, Boozer was protecting the rim. If the Heat had a stretch 4 in at the time, Chalmers would have had a clear path to the rim, or a kick out to a wide open shooter. See More
