Basketball Play - Army STS

Army STS

Kyle Brown 01/31/2013

A set that I saw Army run against Navy last week. The 2 man has to set it up like he is just cutting through on the normal shuffle action and then recieves the screen from 3. Army finished with the down screen, but the elevator option would also work. See More

Basketball Play - Full Court Lay Ups Drill

Full Court Lay Ups Drill

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a warmup drill that works on dribble moves and outlet passes. We primarily used the drill to work on outlet passes, as we wanted all players to be able to rebound the ball and advance it up the sideline on a longer pass in our transition offense attack. Basketball Play - Box "Slice" Series: 5 Options

Box "Slice" Series: 5 Options

Matt Hackenberg 12/12/2021

We used a box set with the same initial action to start each play, and then used a numbering system to decide which option we would use. The series sets up multiple back doors, a rejected ball screen to an empty baseline and a stagger screen. I've had this installed every year I've been a head coach, and it works like a charm. Using the same movement pattern for each play allows you to install one play with five different options. Video clip below. Basketball Play - Michigan - Driving to their RIGHT

Michigan - Driving to their RIGHT

Doug Brotherton 03/20/2017

Michigan beat #2 seeded Louisville, to advance to the Sweet 16 of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Coach Pitino said,You take away Michigan's right-hand, you have a very good chance of stopping them off the bounce. This was in reference to Louisville's struggles to keep Michigan from getting to their right hand. It is no coincidence that Michigan is able to accomplish this, despite their opponents knowing about this strength. The Wolverines do some things, which enable them to maximize their ability to get to their right hand. Look for more of this, from the hottest team in the Country, as they continue their run next week. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan - 31 FLOP Iso

Michigan - 31 FLOP Iso

Doug Brotherton 03/19/2017

After Louisville's loss in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, Coach Pitino mentioned the challenge from keeping Michigan away from their right hand. Michigan is a team that prefers to drive right, and they do a great job designing actions that play to this strength. Michigan stretched their lead to 4, with under 4 minutes left, by running this set. It allowed Wagner (5-man) to get a right handed drive to the rim, as the Louisville defender worried about the action on the left side of the floor. The Wolverines also exchanged their weak side players, to occupy the weak side help. This set has multiple options, but eventually becomes a high post isolation. Look for more of this, as Michigan advances to the Sweet 16. See More
