Basketball Play - 5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

5 Out Roll & Seal (Secondary)

Matt Hackenberg 12/09/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary action out of a 5 Out fast break where we drag screen with our post player, and then roll them into the lane. While our post player is rolling, we are creating spacing to make a post entry. Against switching ball screen defenses, this creates an easy mismatch to exploit without having to stop and set up a formal offense. Basketball Play - Horns Ball Screen Pin Down

Horns Ball Screen Pin Down

Matt Hackenberg 12/08/2021

In this video we look at using a horns alignment to execute a play with multiple options to create a shot. Players can use the ball screen to score, hit a shooter coming off a pin down on the back side, or hit the roll man, although that didn’t happen in this film. With a good decision making lead guard, I think this action is a winner. Basketball Play - 1-4 High: Slip Spread

1-4 High: Slip Spread

Matt Hackenberg 12/08/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we try to steal some points with a set play designed to slip a ball screener to the rim. As simple as the action is, it works far more often than you think it might. It flows right into a spread ball screen option if the cheap points don't materialize. Basketball Play - 5 Out Triple Stagger DHO

5 Out Triple Stagger DHO

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 5 Out alignment to create a driving gap. We pin down screen into a DHO to create the gap, and space a shooter in the corner to keep the defense honest. Basketball Play - UCLA Duck Stagger

UCLA Duck Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we have a set play sometimes referred to as “moon” action but with a little twist. The twist is a quick point guard duck in before using the stagger screen. I like this design because it has actions happening on both sides of the court at the same time, which keeps the help side occupied. Basketball Play - Princeton Chin

Princeton Chin

Matt Hackenberg 12/05/2021

This diagram and film looks at the basic Princeton Chin action. The action is a bit monotonous, but can be very effective. The action is a continuity, so you can just keep running it until you get a scoring opportunity. It's very good against pressure defense. Basketball Play - Spread Ball Screen - False Motion

Spread Ball Screen - False Motion

Matt Hackenberg 12/05/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we get into a simple spread ball screen action after some false motion. I like the spacing and movement of the design. Spread ball screen concepts are penetrating high school basketball more and more. Shifting the defense before the action adds a little risk, but allows the offense to attack with the defense on the move.
