Basketball Play - UCLA with Pin Down

UCLA with Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/22/2012

This is a multiple screen play that has several different reads. After you come off the UCLA screen and go to set the cross screen the person has the option of coming off of your cross screen or the pin down screen, it is their read. If he comes off your cross screen then you are going to come off the pin down screen. Just read the defense and play out of the set to get a good look. The UCLA screen needs to be a good screen because this will cause the defense to have to shift and become the first crack in the defensive break down. Cutter in the corner needs to read his defender and decide if he should come off the cross screen or pin down screen. Be a threat to score as you come off each screen. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

SLOB - Slice Screen Rescreen/Counter Play

Basketball HQ 09/19/2012

As soon as the ball is inbounded you want to get right into the play. Your first look is for the cutter coming off of the re screen but don’t get so focused on him that you miss the big man who set the screen or the weak side screening action. The cutter needs to sell his slice cut to get his defender to drop into the paint. After the big man sets the rescreen he needs to open up to the ball and look to get a catch. Basketball Play - Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/18/2012

This action is meant to be quick and to get the defense out of position so that they cannot help as much on the side ball screen. If the big man is worried about the down screen and has to extend then he is going to be out of position to help on the ball screen. The man coming off the side ball screen needs to be aggressive and make a play for himself or a teammate. Set good screens on the baseline to get the opponents big man to have to help extend and then quickly sprint to the ball screen. Practice the right timing of this play. Basketball Play - Single/Double with Flash

Single/Double with Flash

Basketball HQ 09/17/2012

The goal of this play is to get a shot off the screens for the shooters or a a back door layup for the wing after the big man catches it in the high post. But as you can see in the video those options were covered, but because they were ran well the big man’s defender had to help off and this allowed a good hand off back to the PG for a shot. Don’t let your players be robots teach them how to read and react in every play. Hit someone on a good screen, the cutter that is ball side needs to set his man up to back door him, if the big man hands the ball off he needs to dribble at the PG’s defender and try to seal him under. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More
