Favorite Send to FastDrawAfter Louisville's loss in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, Coach Pitino mentioned the challenge from keeping Michigan away from their right hand. Michigan is a team that prefers to drive right, and they do a great job designing actions that play to this strength. Michigan stretched their lead to 4, with under 4 minutes left, by running this set. It allowed Wagner (5-man) to get a right handed drive to the rim, as the Louisville defender worried about the action on the left side of the floor. The Wolverines also exchanged their weak side players, to occupy the weak side help. This set has multiple options, but eventually becomes a high post isolation. Look for more of this, as Michigan advances to the Sweet 16. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawWIth the score tied 53-53, with under 7 minutes left, Michigan went to this set play. It was a great design, after the timeout, which resulted in a wide open 3. Wagner, Michigan's 5-man, buried the shot. This allowed Michigan to play from ahead, as they went down the stretch in their big win over the #2 seed, Louisville. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawA part of Michigan's motion offense, if the wide pindown is covered and the big opening is not open they default into this action. This is triggered by the point guard looking back to the wing where the pass came from and he dives backdoor. The corner fills and then looks to drive into the middle of the lane and the point guard cuts off the big setting a flare screen for a shot. 3 in the corner/opposite block must clear to the opposite side to prevent any help. Favorite Send to FastDrawVanderbilt ran this counter to their normal "Chicago" action, or a pindown from a big into a guard to guard hand off. In this action the 1 keeps the hand off to the guard and pitches it to the 5 for a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawTo open the second half against Louisville, John Beilein ran a nice counter out of their normal wide pindown set. Instead of setting the pindown for the 3 man in the corner, he slips it and receives a backscreen from the 2 man in the paint. The key here is the pass back from 4 to 1 to time with the backscreen from 2. See More
