Basketball Play - Low Pin Down

Low Pin Down

Basketball HQ 10/15/2012

Get your best player a touch in the mid paint area off of the down screen. Make sure that the pass is on time right when the scorer comes off the pin down screen. Once the shooter catches the ball in the paint the other players need to space and be ready to shoot if their man helps off too much. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA with Pin Down

UCLA with Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/22/2012

This is a multiple screen play that has several different reads. After you come off the UCLA screen and go to set the cross screen the person has the option of coming off of your cross screen or the pin down screen, it is their read. If he comes off your cross screen then you are going to come off the pin down screen. Just read the defense and play out of the set to get a good look. The UCLA screen needs to be a good screen because this will cause the defense to have to shift and become the first crack in the defensive break down. Cutter in the corner needs to read his defender and decide if he should come off the cross screen or pin down screen. Be a threat to score as you come off each screen. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA Cut with Back Screen & Pin Down

UCLA Cut with Back Screen & Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/21/2012

This play has two consecutive UCLA screens with a pin down screen on the opposite side. It is important that you set good screens and be a threat to score off of every screen. The more good screens you set the more the defense will become out of position. Set good legal screens and come off of each screen being a threat to score. Passer needs to be able to get the ball to the shooter right as he is coming off the screen if he is open. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Transition Dribble Down/Double Screen

Transition Dribble Down/Double Screen

Basketball HQ 09/20/2012

This play is for a quick hitter in transition. For this play to work the offense needs to get down and get into the play before the defense can get back and get completely set. Screeners need to set good legal screens, cutter needs to come off the down screens looking to score, and the play needs to happen as quickly as possible. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/18/2012

This action is meant to be quick and to get the defense out of position so that they cannot help as much on the side ball screen. If the big man is worried about the down screen and has to extend then he is going to be out of position to help on the ball screen. The man coming off the side ball screen needs to be aggressive and make a play for himself or a teammate. Set good screens on the baseline to get the opponents big man to have to help extend and then quickly sprint to the ball screen. Practice the right timing of this play. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Pin Down Post Iso Play

Pin Down Post Iso Play

Basketball HQ 09/15/2012

This play can be run for a big man or a guard but the reason you would run it is to take advantage of a size match up. If you feel that a player can take his defender in the post let him set the pin down screen and then post up. The deeper you set the pin down screen the closer your post up will be. Don’t make the post man wait on the pass, hit him as soon as he is open. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Low Double Stack

Low Double Stack

Basketball HQ 09/14/2012

When you come off of a down screen or out screen you don’t have to look and catch and shoot. A lot of times you will be able to catch and drive the ball because the defender will over close out because he is behind the play because of getting hung up on the screen. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. Basketball Play - Pro Cut with Backdoor

Pro Cut with Backdoor

Basketball HQ 09/12/2012

The goal of this play is to get the defender that is chasing the cutter to go over top on the down screen that is being set in the high post. This way when the cutter curls the screen he has a wide open lane to the basket and the high post man can hit him for the lay up. The week side needs to make sure that they space and if their man goes to help on the backdoor cut they rotate up for the open shot or drive. See More

Basketball Play - Inferno Drill

Inferno Drill

Greg White 08/19/2012

One of my favorite drills is The Inferno. This is a great October 15th drill because it immediately raises the intensity level or shows the lack of it. What you'll need: 3 Passers 4 Offensive players 4 Defensive players 1 Ball 1 Box of band-aids (if it's a successful drill.) Players begin on the elbows and blocks. This drill is for 8 minutes. The team's roles will switch at the 4 minute mark. There are no substitutions for the 8 involved. When the ball is at the top, the offense down screens. When the ball is on the wing, players screen across. To keep the drill competitive, and it won't take much, use one of the following scoring systems: Each catch = 5 defensive pushups (5 keeps the speed going plus a good screening group will average 20 catches in 4 minutes) Each catch = 1 pt for elbow catch, 2pts for catch on the block. Keep track and at the end of 8 minutes losing team has a reminder drill. Each catch = live four on four. Offense gets whatever shot they score, Defense gets 2 for a stop, 3 for a charge, etc.. 3fromthecorner.com See More

Basketball Play - Oakland Grizzlies - Floppy Rip Grenade

Oakland Grizzlies - Floppy Rip Grenade

Rory Hamilton 03/24/2024

Play begins with Floppy action as 3 screens for 2 and then exits out weak side. The 2 comes off of 5's pindown screen. The 2 immediately curls the 5's screen and looks to set a rip screen for the 4. The 5 pops towards the 3pt line after the 2 curls to create a catch on the wing and looks to beam it to the 4 coming low off the screen. If the 4 is not open on the initial rip screen, he continues his cut to the short corner and looks to create a catch. On 4's catch the grenade action takes place: the 5 screens in for 2 and the 4 dribbles at the screen for a DHO and screen to create a 3pt shot for the 2. See More
