Basketball Play - Four-Man Break

Four-Man Break

Alan Peel 09/10/2013

This drill is designed to teach primary break by getting players to fill lanes and get the ball up the floor quickly by passing it. If you need to make sure that your players run wide, you can place cones seven feet from the sideline at half court. Basketball Play - Three-Man Weave Drills

Three-Man Weave Drills

Alan Peel 09/08/2013

I have had great success in using this drill as a way to get my players warmed up and for team-building purposes. The players must make a specified number of lay-ups before moving on to the next stage (from five passes to four passes to three passes to being done). For a lay-up to be considered to be "made", the ball must not touch the floor at any time and the lay-up must be shot with the proper hand. Make absolutely sure that your players are catching the ball with their feet in the air and coming to a jump stop. This will prevent them from developing bad habits by traveling with the ball. Basketball Play - 10 in 1 Shooting Drill

10 in 1 Shooting Drill

Kyle Gilreath 09/06/2013

This is one of my favorite shooting drills of all time. It combines shooting, conditioning, and mental toughness to fight through fatigue. I got this drill from Embry-Riddle Head Coach Steve Ridder many years ago when I was a youngster attending team camp with my dad. This drill will test any player who thinks they are a great shooter and make them prove it! Goal: Good Players: 10 Great Players: 11 Elite Players: 12+ See More

Basketball Play - Cone Handle Shots

Cone Handle Shots

Kyle Gilreath 07/24/2013

I love this drill because it works on several components of improvement all at once: Ball Handling: Force your players out of their comfort zone and to dribble lower and quicker each time, that is the only way to improve Footwork: Creating space and finishing with the least amount of dribbles Finishing Through/Over/Around the Defense: This drill consists of a multiple of different types of shots and finishes that are great to add to your players' repertoire. Basketball Play - Creating Space Rim Finishes

Creating Space Rim Finishes

Kyle Gilreath 07/17/2013

One problem many young players face and something the pro's have perfected, is the ability to create space by setting up your defender for a move. In this drill I taught our players to jab at the rim to get the defender off and then jab in another direction to get the defense to recover to a side. Once you get the defense to a side you can then make a move and attack. Utilizing coaches/managers with pads in areas where the player will experience contact enhances this drill to the fullest. The coach/manager on the ball try to slap at the arms/ball to teach your players to be strong with the ball when jabbing and ripping through for a move. See More

Basketball Play - 5 Spot Finishing

5 Spot Finishing

Kyle Gilreath 07/04/2013

At Fort Myers High School we run the Read and React Offense from Better Basketball. If you are not familiar with the offense it consists of five spots that should always be filled. If your defenders feet are above the three point line (Read Line) and you are one pass away we tell our players to immediately cut back door. With that in mind this morning I put a couple of our guys through a grueling session of finishing moves which incorporates this concept. When finishing from the sides I like to teach my players to get their shoulders parallel with the baseline to product themselves and the ball from a defender. See More

NBA Warmup

John Leonzo 05/14/2013

Here is a great drill that can be used to work on a players individual offensive skills. This drill can be done as part of an individual workout or can be done with an entire team. This drill gives you the opportunity to work on finishing around the basket, one on one moves, and jump shooting as well. This is a great drill to get lots of reps in a quick time! See More

Basketball Play - 3FTC Stephen Curry Shooting Workout

3FTC Stephen Curry Shooting Workout

Greg White 05/02/2013

I saw Stephen Curry doing this before a game so we decided to make a drill out of it. This is a great drill because you (1) get conditioning and game type shots, (2) movement and (3) you can use both sides of the floor. We set the scoring as follows: The Shooter must make 3 3pt shots to complete the drill. They do not have to be in a row. Mid range Shots do not count as a make. Advanced: The Shooter must make 4/5 shots including the mid-range if they miss a 3pt shot. Expert: The Shooter must make 3 consecutive 3pt shots. See More
