Basketball Play - Horns Elevator Clear (Early Offense)

Horns Elevator Clear (Early Offense)

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a early offense option out of the horns push gate series. The gate action keeps a lot of defense occupied, and creates space for the point guard clear out. Basketball Play - Elevator Clear Out

Elevator Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a early offense set to attack in transition, usually with limited time on the clock. The design is mostly used to get a point gaurd space, but I think the shooter will be open sometimes as well. South Carolina Gamecocks WBB - 3 Low Step In BLOB

Tony Miller 04/08/2022

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this baseline out look from 2022 NCAA Women’s D1 National Champion South Carolina Gamecocks. This was a common look as Player of the Year Aliyah Boston inbounds the ball, and while action occupies the defense, she steps in for a post catch. Send to FastDraw using button above. Basketball Play - Transition Brush Flare

Transition Brush Flare

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a designed transition flow to create confusion for the defense, and a gap to attack for the offense. I love how quick and smoothe the offense gets into the action. It's easy to see defenses miscommunicating this action. Basketball Play - Overload Clear Out

Overload Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set to create some space for an elite driver. It has some movement, but is reletively simple. It creates a lot of space, clearing out the entire side for the driver instead of leaving a shooter in the corner to make a decision. Basketball Play - High Ball Screen Throwback Chicago

High Ball Screen Throwback Chicago

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set with some nice false action to get to a gap drive. I'm a big fan of using the pin down into the DHO action, so adding a little more misdirection with the ball screen throwback makes the set even more interesting to me. Triple Brush

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a gap drive set. I've honestly never seen a triple brush screen before viewing this set. Take a look at the video. I think it could work if executed well. Basketball Play - 41 Brush Weave

41 Brush Weave

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a gap drive set. The brush and weave create some nice movement before the advanced slasher gets a nice double gap to attack. Basketball Play - Jump Stop Passing & Finishing

Jump Stop Passing & Finishing

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to use in place of traditional layup lines. I hate when players get too casual and try to be too fancy in laup lines. Implementing this structure keeps more focus during this drill that every team in the world runs. Post Position & Score Drill (Single Pivots)

Matt Hackenberg 04/04/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on post sealing and footwork. This drill uses guided defense to work on our single pivots series. These pivots are simple and effective once mastered. Basketball Play - Transition Slice

Transition Slice

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of transition. I like the dribble entry right into exploring the action from transition. Most teams rely on the wing entry so much, so eliminating that step here and there can help the offense run more smooth. Basketball Play - Circle Up Clear Out

Circle Up Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play to clear out the defense for a drive from the point guard. This is kind of like the barking dog play - "hey, look over here so we can do something else." If the circle up draws enough attention, it may work every once in a while. This is best used in a series of plays that all start out of this alignment, with this play being more of a "special" for end of quarters. Basketball Play - Flare Cross STS

Flare Cross STS

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play with a few different options. Entering the ball to the elbow isn't as easy as it looks, but if you can get the ball there, it opens up some options. The flare stretches the defense side to side, and the back screen into the screen the screener can punish the defense whether they switch the screens or get through. Basketball Play - UCLA Slice

UCLA Slice

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-2-2 alignment. This play has intelligent design. The down screens (not shown in the diagram) allow for clean wing catch. The UCLA screen allows the ball to be reversed cleanly. The slice screen is little on big, so the defense will have a hard time switching it.
