Drill #3 in motion offense teaching progression teaches players to maintain "top-side-side" spacing while cutting and passing. Take cuts all the way to the rim and fill with the dribble or pass. If you pass from wing to point and the other two spots are filled, cut and replace yourself. DON'T STAND! Maintain 15-18 feet spacing and top-side-side alingment (Mover-Blocker principle)
(This is not all the possible movement and cutting actions, but a few of the basic principles.)
Begin in a top-side-side formation
1 passes to either wing and basket cuts
1 reads action and fills
2 should center with the dribble
2 may pass to 3 then basket cut
1 may fill the top and 2 could fill the weakside wing
3 passes to 1
If 3 passes and the other two spots are filled, cut and replace (v-cut) Don't pass and stand!
1 reverses and basket cuts, 2 passes to 1 for shot
(action can continue for a predetermined number of passes)
