In this diagram and embedded video, we look at the spread offense used in high school basketball. This offense uses the high post and a series of cutters to attack the defense in a variety of ways. This offensive concept has always been a unique and interesting play style to me, ever since I first saw it when Stephen F. Austin was running it under Brad Underwood in the early 2010's. The offense has evolved quite a bit, but in the video below you will see a lot of the more basic options used when it is ran at the high school level.

  • The basic action. Hit a wing, first cutter and second cutter
  • After overloading, look for the high post
  • Or reverse through the guard using a slot ball screen
  • The high post catch is a great isolation opportunity
  • Run the first cutter off the high post
  • Explore the second cutter off the high post - wheel action
