About This Play/Drill

"Smash" is a set to run vs a Match-up Zone Defense. The key to this play is to make bottom defender of zone commit to either the dribble or wing shooter coming to the corner. The goal is to seal off the middle of the zone and bring the other post player low for a layup.

  • Initial Set-up: 1-3-1 alignment

Set begins with a pass to either wing.

  • 1 immediately chases the ball and gets quick pass back from 2.

  • 2 then sprints to the block. 1 waits for 2 to get there before passing to 3.

  • 3 catches and takes a dribble toward the wing area. 4 screens middle defender of zone as 5 cuts to strong side block. Pass can come from 3 or 2 in corner if 2 does not have a shot.
