In Bump Drill the guards and forwards must communicate and execute the BUMP at the wing.

The forwards (x3 & x4) are responsible for disallowing the 3-point shot! No wing threes!

The guards (x1 & x2) are responsible for the drive middle from the wing.

Player 1 passes to Player 2 - X3 closes out on Player 2. Approach ready to contest the shot with outside hand. Take a stance that influences the drive into the help

X1 sprints over and BUMPS X3 off the ball.

    Talk! "BUMP!! BUMP!!"

X3 bumps off facing the ball, arms up and towards the short corner to deter a pass to the player who may be behind the zone in that area. X1 jabs at Player 2 with outside hand.

X2 must FACE & FEEL - Face the ball, feel the high post with inside hand

  • Player 2 centers to Player 1

X2 closes out to take away the 3PA.

X1 must sprint in to feel the high post

X4 anticipates the ball reversal and prepares to run at 3 to take away the 3PA if the ball is swung

  • Ball swings to 3

All players move to the ball on airtime

X4 takes away the 3PA, X2 bumps off X4. Bump facing the ball, hands up to deter pass to a possible player behind the zone

  • X2 jabs at Player 3 with outside hand

X1 faces ball, feels the high post

The offense continues to move the ball as the defense moves, talks and bumps on the wings.

  • Bump Drill can be a halfcourt only drill, but it also presents an opportunity to work on conversion with an advantage

Eventually the offense finds a shot and Black team begins to covert to defense

  • (THERE)

Made or missed, green team converts to offense 4v3. FIND - Anytime the offense has an advantage the mission is to FIND the open player. Runs lanes. Pitch ahead or race the dribble

  • 4v3 Advantage

Goal with an offensive advantage is to score in less than 8 seconds

After the score, convert back to zone defense

  • Black team converts to offense and bump drill continues until black team finds a shot commits turnover.
