About This Play/Drill

This play establishes several isolations and mixes a segment of the Triangle Offense with a backdoor cut and ball screen.  Great set for mismatches and for players who can handle the ball & attack the basket.

  • 1 dribbles toward 2. 2 shallow cuts and they essentially trade places. 5 walks defender into the paint and cuts HARD to the ballside elbow.

  • As 5 reaches the elbow, 1 passes to him. Then, 3 takes a step up before backdoor cutting toward the basket. The first option is for 5 to pass to 3 for a lay-up.

  • After passing to 5, 1 walks defender inside the FT line and tight curls off of 5 for a handoff & lay-up opportunity. 3 moves out to the corner and 4 rotates up to Foul Line Extended.

  • 2 takes a step toward the ball and then SPRINTS hard to set a screen for 4. At the same time, 5 takes 1 Crab Dribble across the FT line toward 4.

  • 4 cuts and tight curls off of 5 for another handoff & lay-up opportunity. 1 clears out to the corner while 3 rotates up. After setting the screen, 2 pops out with hands and feet ready to shoot.

  • If 4 does not receive handoff, then 5 passes to 2 and sets Ball Screen.

  • 2 uses Ball Screen and attacks the basket. If cannot score, 2 can pass to 4 for a shot in the corner or a rolling 5. 1 and 3 fill spots on the perimeter.
