Fast Model Support Bulletin
With the off-season arriving, we wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of a few tips that should help ensure that next season starts without a hitch.
Backing Up Your Data
Often during the summer, school IT departments will perform maintenance on your computers or replace them entirely. It is important to note that your data is saved locally and if the computer’s data is erased, regaining playbooks or scouting reports would be difficult, or often impossible. We recommend that you back up your FastDraw and FastScout database to something besides your local disk. This is the only file that you need to regain your work. Here are some brief steps for backing up the file:
1. Open FastDraw or FastScout, click on File – Recent Files. These are the files that you have recently used. Take note of these, as it indicates where the files are saved on your drive.
2. Open the location(s) listed in the Recent Files. Copy and Paste these files to the desired backup location.
3. To open the backed up file, copy the file from the backup location to the local drive, open the software, go to File – Open File. Navigate to where the file was saved and click “Open.”
Transferring Data When You Switch Machines
Backing up the files will also be helpful in the event you know you’re going to be using a different computer. The key to this process is to save the file from the original computer, while you still have access. To move your data between computers, follow this process:
1. Save the .fdb or .fsb file, as described above onto a flash drive or external drive.
2. On the original computer, open up FastDraw or FastScout, Click on Help and then click on “Deactivate Software.” It will ask you to confirm this, click Yes, and then the software will close. If you don’t have the opportunity to deactivate yourself, then you’ll probably receive a message on the new computer that you have “Exceeded the licence count” on the new computer. If this is the case, let us know and we’ll be able to take care of that on our end.
3. Install the software on the new computer. Reference the original email for installation, and follow the same steps. If you need the email resent, click
here.
4. To open the backed up file, copy the file from the backup location to the local drive, open the software, go to File – Open File. Navigate to where the file was saved and click “Open.”
Renewing Your Software
Some of you may start receiving notifications that it is time to renew your Fast Model software soon. While the renewal reminder displays automatically as you get close to expiration, you can actually renew anytime. If you are a Basic customer, you can renew your software for the 2011-12 season from within the application itself by choosing the
Purchase or Renew Licenses... menu option show below. This will launch a special website preconfigured to walk you through the renewal process. For best results PLEASE renew from within the application rather than visiting our website and purchasing a new license.
If you are a non-Basic customer please email
renewals@fastmodeltechnologies.com and we can assist you right away.
