This action out of the Princeton Offense has been a staple of the Toronto Raptors' offense for several years. In fact, it is one of the most pervasive actions across the NBA. Nick Nurse has utilized it at the end of many close games, as well as in normal half court scenarios. Primarily called for Kawhi Leonard to attack the screen defender going downhill, it has also been called for Kyle Lowry and other primary ball handlers on the Raptors in the 2018-19 season. See More

During Pascal Siakam's breakout season in 2018-19 as the Most Improved Player, Nick Nurse has dedicated several set-plays to leverage Siakam's unique skill set. With the Point Guard dribbling on the right wing and crossing into the middle of the floor, "4 Flip" is a pet play for Pascal Siakam to leverage his strong driving ability going to his right when the ball is flipped to him as he cross half court. The play, which can be initiated from SLOB (Sideline out of Bounds) scenarios or a normal half-court possession, is a set that involves a lot of player and ball movement around a post up. Nick Nurse has utilized it quite often to leverage the playmaking abilities of his players that feel comfortable making plays out of the post. Specifically, Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam are usually the main decision makers as the remaining off-ball Raptors screen and cut for one another ot occupy the defense's attention. See More

With the addition of Marc Gasol's playmaking ability, Nick Nurse has reintroduced the "Elbow" series into the Toronto Raptors playbook in the 2018-19 season. Popularized by Rick Adelman as the Corner Offense, this set allows the Raptors to utilize their versatile personnel, such as Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry, in inteerchangeable roles as passers, cutters, and pick and roll ball handlers. Often times ran at the end of games, this set allows Nick Nurse to involve all of high star players at once. See More

Toronto Raptors - "Head Tap" BLOB

A staple of the Toronto Raptors' short-clock out of bounds playbook in 2018-19, "Head Tap" BLOB has been extremely effective for team that finished with the 2nd best record in the NBA. Nick Nurse has leveraged the cardinal rule of out of bounds defense - no layups on an inbounds pass - to the offense's advantage by stretching help defense from the rim to the 3-point line. See More

Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - "3" BLOB

Toronto Raptors - "3" BLOB

Throughout Kyle Lowry's tenure with the Toronto Raptors, this baseline out of bounds play has been used as a set-action to get him a 3-pointer in rhythm going to his preferred left. During a mid-seasoon slump in 2018-19, Nick Nurse dialled up "3" BLOB several times over the course of a few games to great success. After toggling from the inbounder and continuing into the continuous staggered screens, Lowry eventually will shoot a catch-and-shoot jumper. See More

Another addition to the Toronto Raptors' revampled out-of-bounds playbook - "Chest" BLOB - is a very simple set of actions. Quite possibly a read-and-react actions, this 4-flat set is a staple of Nick Nurse's playcalling when the Raptors are inbounding the ball under the basket in 2018-19 season. The new additions of Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard have particularly been effective in this set on quick catch-and-shoot looks. See More

During Nick Nurse's first year as the Toronto Raptors head coach, he entirely revamped its out-of-bounds playbook. A perfect encapsulation of that is one of the Raptors' most used baseline out of bounds sets - "C" BLOB. This mover-blocker-esque action does not have any superfluous movement and each motion has a subsequent option and read that follows. See More

Toronto Raptors - Zipper Loop

During a mid-season slump for Kyle Lowry, Nick Nurse introduced this San Antonio Spurs classic into the Raptors playbook. The former Tony Parker pet play involves sending a guard around a series of baseline screens to carry their momentum into an advantage on the catch. During the 2018-19 season, Toronto opened up a couple of games looking to get Lowry going and did so by running this play. See More

After this play was left dormant for several years in the Raptors playbook, Nick Nurse has brought it back this season to get Danny Green perimeter jumpers. Dwane Casey had previously run this play at least as early as the 2013-14 in Toronto for DeMar DeRozan, but had left it unused in recent seasons. In 2018-19, Nick Nurse has opened several games running this play. See More

Nick Nurse (and Dwane Casey before him) have used “62 Flip” – a play that disguises itself as a typical off-ball action but is really a ball-screen play. The Toronto Raptors debuted it in their playbook during the 2018 playoffs and have continued to use it during the 2018-19 season. A set that gets their players in motion to keep defenders moving, "62 Flip" is used in typical half court scenarios. See More

Toronto Raptors - 52 Pinch Hammer

Cooper Smither 04/10/2019

Hammer plays are commonplace across the NBA, and Nick Nurse has several different pet plays that utilize this action. Typically run in after timeout scenarios for their best catch-and-shoot players, this play and formation is out of the “Triangle” and the Toronto Raptors' spacing reflects that. With a big on each elbow, the weak side of the floor forming a triangle with a guard in the deep corner and the other near the hashmark, as well as the ball handler initiating the play from the slot extended. Toronto Raptors - Motion Weak + DHO Counter

Cooper Smither 04/10/2019

This play, a staple of the San Antonio Spurs offense for years, has become a pet-play of Nick Nurse’s to start the game or half. Put into the Raptors playbook in the middle of the season, this play is used for Kawhi Leonard, Pascal Siakam, and Marc Gasol to get a post touch. The first option is for a post-up to score, but the second option/counter involves a kickout pass to leverage aggressive off-ball defense against itself. See More

Toronto Raptors - SLOB "3" (Misdirection Pick and Roll)

Cooper Smither 02/12/2019

Another Sideline Out of Bounds (SLOB) play Nick Nurse introduced in his first season as the Head Coach for the Toronto Raptors is one which uses the same formation as SLOB "1". Through misdirection to make the defense believe "1" is being run, the Raptors have caught defenses by surprise quite frequently before engaging in a middle ball screen after a dribble handoff (DHO). This is typically a set play used to get Kawhi Leonard a possession as a pick and roll ball handler. Free Download: Toronto Raptors Playbook See More
