Basketball Play - 32

32

Andrew Lacey 07/13/2015

Start in a 1-2-2 alignment with your bigs on the blocks. 1 will dribble the basketball away from the side he wants to enter the ball. (ex. Go away from your best shooter). As one is coming back to the shooter's side; 4/5 will set a double screen (elevator screen) for the shooter (2 in this case). 2 will sprint around the screen and back to the ball side corner looking for the shot. 3 will slide to the weak-side corner. If 2 is not open for the pass/shot. 5 (or the post thats at the top of the double screen) will set a screen for the 4 (or post at the bottom of the double screen). 4 then curls tight off the screen looking for a pass from 1. At Varina we use various alignments to put the defense in a situation to limit what they can do help-side wise to defend our quick game. This is a action we use out of our 1-4 set in late game situations to get a quick shot. See More

With the growing amount of teams using the ball screen in today's game; we decided to implement a couple simple quick ball screen actions that were not apart of our basic ball screen movements. The Ball screen is one of the toughest actions to guard in today's game. We have found it easy to get a get quality look in the lane off our ball screen sets. I discussed in my article published in the Winning Hoops Magazine (Sept./Oct. Edition) -"Using Ball Screens in your Motion Offense" that we generally use our ball screen actions after we get the defense moving. See More

Here is an little adjustment to the UCLA to Ball Screen action that I posted earlier. Here we use the UCLA (rub cut) and allow the Post to reverse the ball to change the sides of the floor. You can get a nice ISO inside early on the reversal or you can wait for the jumper as the second option. See More

Here is a nice little ATO set that can be used in late game situations or when you need a basket. Starting in a 1-4 High alignment can allow for the defense to be vulerable to the back door cut. Nonetheless the ball screen actions will draw a lot of attention and allow for the three on the wing or the reversal and throw inside. See More

Here is a nice 1-4 Low set that gives your the inital option to have your point or lead guard take his man off the bounce. As that is playing out the other players create some movement to have defense looking to defend cutters. You can get a nice Hi-Lo out of your post game or catch and shoot option for your wings. Davidson is one of the best perimeter shooting teams in the NCAA Tournament. The do a great job of screen for the 3 and then putting pressure on the basket at the same time by using cuts away from the ball and slipping screens. Here is a little action they use in the first half against Iowa to get a easy lay-up and decent perimeter looks. See More

We are a base 4-out team and we use a lot of dribble drive action in our motion. Here is an easy way to create a driving angle and backdoor. We run this after we run our "Trigger" set that has multiple drives to the elbow. See More

This year we have the advantage in our Conference 3 Tournament to face some Post players that could not move very well on the perimeter. We took advantage of of our athletic Post/Stretch 4 players and put them in tough situations to constantly have to defend ball screens and play on the perimeter. Here is a nice little set that always you to also get mismatches in the scoring zones. See More
