Basketball Play - Zip HO Step Up Hammer SLOB

Zip HO Step Up Hammer SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a longer form SLOB to create a three-pointer off of hammer action. Sometimes I love this set, and other times, I wish it would just get to the point. I really do like flowing pattern of the set, and hammer action is one of my favorites. All of the action is set up up well using screens to make sure players are open when they need to be. Basketball Play - Flash Fake HO SLOB

Flash Fake HO SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to create a driving gap using some misdirection. Getting open on the flash is crititcal, and then selling the hand off before turning the corner to drive. Paring this with another action where the ball is actually handed off will increase the effectiveness. Basketball Play - Swing STS SLOB

Swing STS SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to get into some screen-the-screener (STS) action. I like the action overall, but I'm not sure how much is added by swinging the ball and running the inbounder all the way across the play. Video below. Basketball Play - Gate Stagger SLOB

Gate Stagger SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a little misdirection stagger action. I like how the flow of the actions goes one way, and then the shooter comes open behind the play. I think this could be very effective in a package of plays that all started from the gate alignment. Video clip below. Basketball Play - Box Chicago Flare SLOB

Box Chicago Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB with a good amount of movement from a box alignment. I like the Chicago action for the DHO, and how the ball changes from side to side to set up the flare. Basketball Play - Gate Back Cut SLOB

Gate Back Cut SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a back cut on the gate screen action. I think this action is best paired in series with using the gate screen, using the gate screen and then slipping a screener, and some option after entering to the corner. So if I didn't have a gate screen series installed, I would think about this as a play to draw up in a timeout, or a rare special sitatution SLOB you don't use very often at all. Video clip below. Basketball Play - Curl Lob SLOB

Curl Lob SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB set to try to steak a quick bucket. With a solid screen by 1 against a defense that gets through screens, this can work. I like that 1 is the player setting the back screen, loosening up the defense so that they can go catch the ball if the lob isn't there. The lob pass is critical, so you want a trusted passer to making the decision to throw the lob or not. Video clip below. Miami Heat - Elevator Game Winner SLOB

Tony Miller 11/19/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this sideline set from the NBA’s Miami Heat. Great design if you have two good shooters; one can be a decoy to set up the twist and elevator screen. There is also high potential for a screener slipping to the rim if their defender shows on the shooter. Send to your FastDraw library using the button above. Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Loop Follow Punch SLOB

Dallas Mavericks - Loop Follow Punch SLOB

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a great set that will take advantage of any ball screen coverage. It is especially effective in taking advantage of switches as you see in the video below. The quick timing of the iverson/rub cut into the middle pick and roll will distort the help to either get 5 on the initial lob, 1 an advantage in space vs. the 5, or the throwback post entry the Mavericks use here.
