Basketball Play - 5-Out: Swing DHO Cross

5-Out: Swing DHO Cross

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video, we use a 5 out alignment to get the ball inside. What I love about this set is the little on big screen that has the potential to put the defense in a tough spot if the screen is not handled well. There are endless possibilites out of the 5-Out alignment for creative play calling. Basketball Play - 4-Out: DHO Back Screen Cross Screen

4-Out: DHO Back Screen Cross Screen

Matt Hackenberg 12/06/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 4-Out transition that creates a guard cross screening for a post. I like how the back screen frees up the post player to catch the ball in prime position to read the cross screen. Basketball Play - Zip Pin Duck

Zip Pin Duck

Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

In this set we go back to the interior for a set play designed to get a scoring post a touch on the block. The set uses a little misdirection by dribble pushing the entry away from where the post up will materialize. The dribble push triggers a zipper cut, and the ball is swung to a player receiving a pin down screen to be open. The post who pins down, then seals up for the post entry. Basketball Play - 32 "Strong" (Twin Post Continuity)

32 "Strong" (Twin Post Continuity)

Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

In this diagram we look at a continuity offense to get the ball inside. The set features multiple options to feed a single post player. The action can be ran to feature two bigs at the same time if you have the luxury of multiple interior threats. When we ran this offense, we had two bigs that could both play inside and feed each other on the high/low. All the options of the offense are explored in the embedded video. Basketball Play - Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Matt Hackenberg 11/23/2021

Any time we had a functional big man, we always have this in the playbook. The play is simple, and provides a great opportunity to isolate your big. The movement puts the defense in a tough spot because the back side help is removed, so if they front, we can throw over the top for a layup. If they play behind, we have a 1 on 1 opportunity on the block. The play gets right to the point of the set, which I like because it limits the number of ball handlers and decisions that need to be made. You can easilty hide weaker players in the 4 or the 2 spot in this play. Basketball Play - UCLA Bruins - Post Rip

UCLA Bruins - Post Rip

Matt Wheeler 11/05/2021

The UCLA Bruins ran this backscreen play in their NCAA Tournament game against Michigan to get the ball into the post. After 1 passes the ball to 4 they cut to the rim off the backscreen from 5. 4 reverses the ball to 5 and 1 sets a backscreen for 4 to get him open in the post. Video clip below. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Heat - Flat Ram Exit

Miami Heat - Flat Ram Exit

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a simple exit set utilizing a 1-4 low alignment. The clip included shows the set as designed but there are several other components I like about this set as well. With Morris (ideally Adebayo would be here) sprinting up off Herro's brush screen into a simple touch and out middle ball screen there is a component of rim pressure being applied here as well. The Heat do not, but I would lift our weakside guard (Strus) to occupy the tag and place him in a long closeout. You also have the slip, or post feed after the pinscreen for the shooter coming out. I like this set and it's versatility to create a high quality look with space. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a very common action in the Maverick's playbook. This false motion must be honored with players like Doncic, Hardaway, KP and the rest of the Mavericks weapons. This stagger into a ball screen will prompt a switch and the opportunity for the Mavericks to roll their newest big man, 7'2" Moses Brown, into the paint with a guard on his back and surrounded by shooters. This set can be run for any player you would like to get a deep paint catch for. Video clip below. See More
