Basketball Play - San Antonio Spurs - "Elbow 1"

San Antonio Spurs - "Elbow 1"

Doug Brotherton 03/28/2017

The San Antonio Spurs beat the defending NBA Champion, Cleveland Cavaliers, by 29 points. There was a lot working. This set was my favorite, as it has multiple scoring options. The Spurs stack two players weakside, to make it look like Kawhi Leonard (3) will come off of a weakside down screen. Instead, he sets a baseline cross screen, in a great screen-the-screener action. Basketball Play - West Virginia Princeton Action

West Virginia Princeton Action

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

West Virginia used this Princeton type action last night against Gonzaga in their Sweet 16 match-up. Carter runs off the FT line screen into a double stagger looking to catch & shoot off the pass from the TOK. If there's no shot, he has the option to throw inside and the 5 man's down screen or exchange with 3 can also lead to a Hi / Lo off the wing pass to the FT Line area. The play closes with a corner ball screen action when the post has no attack option to the basket and the PG makes the read shooting behind the screen. See More

Basketball Play - Gonzaga Box Low Post Iso

Gonzaga Box Low Post Iso

Dana Beszczynski 03/24/2017

Gonzaga fought off a furious challenge last night in the Sweet 16 from West Virginia. The Zags had difficult at times getting into their sets due to the relentless ball pressure applied from the Mountaineers. Here is a Post Iso action run from a Box set where they look to free up Karnowski off a simple back screen action in the lane. Gonzaga does a good job moving without the ball and opening up the cutting lanes as evident by the last frame here with the ball in the Post. See More

Basketball Play - Florida Gators ATO

Florida Gators ATO

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

The Gators used this set out of a timeout in the 1st half against Virginia in Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament. The multiple ball screen action is very tough to defend and yields an open 3 pt shot to Robinson who broke out in Game 1 of the Tournament for Florida. Florida moves their personnel around the floor creating the best angles for screening and attacking off the dribble. See More

Basketball Play - Florida - Transition

Florida - Transition

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

Mike White has taken the Florida Gators to the Sweet Sixteen this year and has done a masterful job putting his players in a position to play to their strengths. The Gators offense opens the floor and plays to opportunities for 1 v 1 breakdown actions with their talented guards. The Ball Screen is a big part of the Gators offense and this is a really good action. See More

Basketball Play - Virginia "5 Shake"

Virginia "5 Shake"

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

This is an Offensive staple of the Virginia Cavaliers. This offense is so well run by the Cavaliers, they read everything so well and know how to move without the ball. Tony Bennett is such a defensive guru, but this Offensive action they run is really nice to watch and the continuity keeps it moving throughout the shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - Arizona - Motion

Arizona - Motion

Dana Beszczynski 03/21/2017

Sean Miller's Offensive sets are very creative, involve a lot of movement and do a good job changing sides of the floor. This Princeton type Motion Action invovles a lot of screening actions, incorporates two ball screens and forces the Defense to be aware of cutters and movements on the weak side. The opening action off the FT line elbow screen can yield a lob if the defender on the cutter gets hung up on the screen or is late trailing his man. Use also have the back screen Flex type cut for Trier which can get your 3 man a quick post-up or easy lay-up off the ball reversal step out from the 5 man. The play ends with either a SPNR or Step-up screen from the baseline. Well designed, easy to execute, but very hard to defend when utilizing a full shot clock. See More
