Basketball Play - Side Quick

Side Quick

Kyle Gilreath 09/04/2013

Tuesday night the Jamaica National Team ran this sideline out of bounds play at the end of the game versus Brazil. Unfortunately, the shot fell short and Brazil won the game. If the defense screws up and you are only down two points, the lob to 4 is your first option followed by 2 sprinting off the screen from 5. See More

The Michigan Wolverines ran this Half-Court Set versus Louisville in the 2013 National Championship game. The key to this action is 2 MUST set a great screen on 3 to open up the post-up and also make it easier for 2 to get open off the pin-down from 5. To see every play Michigan ran during the 2013 Final Four check out my ebook, Championship Execution. See More

Basketball Play - Granger Sts Iso

Granger Sts Iso

Adam Spinella 08/23/2013

Instead of "over-coaching" and getting difficult looks for your players at the rim, you can now relax and draw forth the following plays to get your best players in isolation at the end of a game. In isolation sets, all the work by the coach is done before the player gets the ball. From there, it's up to the superstar to make a great one-on-one play. Danny Granger hit the game winner off this isolation set, drawn up by Frank Vogel out of a Box formation. See More

Gregg Marshall's Wichita State team ran this baseline out of bounds play versus Louisville in the 2013 Final Four. This play has multiple screening actions that make it nearly impossible to cover every option. Basketball Play - 08 Nets Sts Slip Lob

08 Nets Sts Slip Lob

After Carter buried the Raptors and sent the game to OT, he got another chance to win it in the extra frame. Lawrence Frank drew up another lob play for him, once again banking on the defense paying attention to players other than Carter. The misdirection lob play is a staple in SLOB situations, and Carter does a great job selling the screen to set it up. See More

Basketball Play - 14 Again

14 Again

Kyle Gilreath 08/20/2013

Louisville ran this pick & roll play in their 2013 Final Four game versus Wichita State. Siva (1) did an excellent job head hunting X5 after flipping the ball to 2. This action happened very quickly as 2 attacked the paint X4 had to stunt at the ball and X3 sank down to cover 4. All of this action forced so much help that 2 was able to find 3 spotting up in the corner for a catch & shoot. To see EVERY play Louisville ran in the 2012 and 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Richard Jefferson and Jason Collins connected on a fantastic alley oop in a 2004 game to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers. The play, designed to get Richard Jefferson free at the rim, works well because of the amount of attention paid to Jason Kidd as their star player. His ability to serve as a decoy away from the basket was instrumental in freeing up space at the basket and getting Jefferson's man away from him. See More

Basketball Play - Sweep

Sweep

Alan Peel 08/19/2013

"Sweep" is a secondary break play run by several teams including Colorado and Harvard. This play is based on the North Carolina approach to secondary break offense made popular by Dean Smith and Roy Williams. It can be run if you do not have players athletic enough to run the Carolina break for the lob dunk and can be run into any kind of a three-around-two offense. Basketball Play - Double Swing

Double Swing

Randy Brown 08/12/2013

Double swing uses the same action twice in the same set play. After ball is entered to 3, 1 cuts to block and uses 4's down screen to return to original spot. 2 and 3 again swing the wings, with 2 receiving three staggered screens to get open on the right side. After screening for 2, 3 empties out on the left wing. Give it a try! See More
