Basketball Play - Chino Hills '15-16: Transition Offense

Chino Hills '15-16: Transition Offense

Matt Hackenberg 01/08/2022

BLOG & PLAYBOOK - Chino Hills Huskies: The Scheme Behind the Ball Brothers In this embedded video and diagram we look at the transition system of the 35-0, state championship Chino Hills team of 2015-16. The Chino Hills transition offense was the main feature of its system. The Huskies played as fast as anyone I've ever seen at the high school level. BLOG & PLAYBOOK - Chino Hills Huskies: The Scheme Behind the Ball Brothers In this embedded video and diagram we look at the half court offense of the 35-0, state championship Chino Hills team of 2015-16. If you're looking for tricky sets, this isn't it. Chino Hills kept it very simple, but got a lot of mileage out of these three simple concepts. Basketball Play - Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Horns Ball Screen - Roll/Pop Into Duck & Pins

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. The horns ball screen, rolling and popping, creates great 4 around 1 spacing for the high/low. I like the flow of the play after the high/low look, using the DHO to set up action on both sides. I would bet that at least one of the sides isn't defended properly after the high/low action. Basketball Play - Central Arkansas - Circle Motion Offense: "Stay"

Central Arkansas - Circle Motion Offense: "Stay"

Matt Hackenberg 01/06/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Circle Motion Offense. This set play comes from Central Arkansas, and has a post up option. The set stays true the circle motion action, except looks for a post up when the offensive player would normally be filling out to the corner. The ball stays on the same side while the Circle action is taking place instead of being reversed. Basketball Play - Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: "Keeper" Duck In

Central Arkansas - Circle Motion: "Keeper" Duck In

Matt Hackenberg 01/05/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the Circle Motion Offense. This set play comes from Central Arkansas, and has post up option. I like how the set disguises the action by running through the normal Circle Motion action, then breaks the pattern to provide a duck in. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Overload Tight Curl

Zone Set: Overload Tight Curl

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. The concept of overloading the zone places more offensive players in an area than there are defenders. The cuter overloads the zone, shifting with the pass, and then an interior screen frees up the post player to catch the ball inside on the tight curl. Basketball Play - Direct Entry SLOB

Direct Entry SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/17/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to throw the ball inside. It's only there when the post defender stays behind and player headed to the corner gets chased. If the post is fronted, the lob over the top may be there but is a difficult pass to make. If the shoter is not chased to the corner, the corner three may be there (next clip in video below). Basketball Play - Princeton Offense - Multi-Option Set: "Hawk"

Princeton Offense - Multi-Option Set: "Hawk"

Matt Hackenberg 12/12/2021

This is a long form play with multiple options from a Princeton alignment and a floppy action to feature a dynamic player. If the player can drive, shoot, post up, finish off the cuts or use a ball screen there are options to do so. We used the play to feature a shooter, but a post up player or a driver could also be used, just different options would need to be emphasized.
