Basketball Play - Chicago Bulls - Side PNR Lob

Chicago Bulls - Side PNR Lob

Matt Wheeler 05/08/2017

The Chicago Bulls ran this pick and roll play to take advantage of the Boston Celtics strategy of switching guard to guard ball screens. When 3 sets the ball screen he makes sure to get underneath x1 and pin his defender opening himself up for the lob. 1 quickly passes to 5 to improve the passing angle and 5 makes the lob pass to 3. Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Iverson STS Flare

Ball Screen Sets - Iverson STS Flare

Doug Brotherton 05/04/2017

"Iverson STS Flare" is one of my favorite ball screen sets, due to the multiple actions that occur around the ball screen. The Iverson Cut initiates the set, which is followed by a screen-the-ballscreener action. To really challenge the defense, there is a weak side flare screen, and a back screen for the ball screener. If read properly, this set is incredibly hard to defend. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Horns Double

Ball Screen Sets - Horns Double

Doug Brotherton 05/04/2017

"Horns Double" is another wrinkle off of the basic "Horns Action." The set creates multiple actions, behind the ball screen. With the post player defending the ball screen, the help is eliminated on the weak side double stagger screen. If the defense recovers, the play ends with a Flare screen for the 4. This set requires the defense to have perfect switches and/or a perfect scramble rotation. As we see, throughout the history of basketball, great offense has an advantage over great defense. This set creates those advantages. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Horns Flare

Ball Screen Sets - Horns Flare

Doug Brotherton 05/04/2017

"Horns Flare" is a wrinkle off of the basic "Horns Action," It has two major benefits. The first is that it puts the big, who is in the middle of defending a ball screen action, into a tough defensive scramble. If read properly, this will create a big offensive advantage. It also occupies both bigs, away from the basket, which opens the lane for an aggressive drive from the guard. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Ball Screen Sets - Stack 52

Doug Brotherton 04/29/2017

"Stack 52" is a counter to the "Stack 25," which challenges a defense in a high pick and roll situation. Instead of rolling after the high ball screen, the 5 goes into a pin down for the 2. The point guard can look to turn the corner, or read the secondary action. This is another great option in a late clock situation. See More

Basketball Play - Ball Screen Sets - 1-up

Ball Screen Sets - 1-up

Doug Brotherton 04/29/2017

"1-Up" is a simply set, which is dependent on the ability of the PG to read the help defense. 5 sets a step up, high ball screen, and rolls back to the rim. 4 completes the roll/rise action, by rising behind the roller. 1 can turn the corner to attack, if help comes from the corner, then it is a drive and kick 3. The other read is the defender of the opposite post player. If X4 helps on the roll, then the 4 will be open on the rise. If X4 stays with the rise, then the roll should be open at the rim. This is a good late shot clock call, for those that play with a shot clock. See More
