Favorite Send to FastDrawThis set uses some misdirections to set up a flare screen for our shooter. We want to get the defense watching the ball while we set up a dribble at flare. With the space created by the flare, we want to shoot or attack the close out. Video clip below. Favorite Send to FastDrawOut of our 5 Out alignment we used a set to to bring our 1 off of a double stagger screen. We reverse the ball to our 4, dribble hand off to the 2, and stagger screen on the back side. Developing slipping options out of the stagger would make this set even tougher to guard. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a long form play with multiple options from a Princeton alignment and a floppy action to feature a dynamic player. If the player can drive, shoot, post up, finish off the cuts or use a ball screen there are options to do so. We used the play to feature a shooter, but a post up player or a driver could also be used, just different options would need to be emphasized. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play that evolves directly from the Euro Ball Screen Offense, designed to get a shooter a look coming off screening action. I love masking actions out of your base man offense. It really throws defenses off the scent of the action, and makes it harder for opponents to gain an advantage through scouting. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at an end of quarter set play to get a three-point shot for a shooter. Consider this play to end periods taking the final shot, while getting the shot you want for your team. It works consistently, and manages ghe end of quarter situations so they don't end up hurting your team. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this video we look at using a horns alignment to execute a play with multiple options to create a shot. Players can use the ball screen to score, hit a shooter coming off a pin down on the back side, or hit the roll man, although that didn’t happen in this film. With a good decision making lead guard, I think this action is a winner. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at two sets that work together to look similar, but produce different scoring opportunities. I will always be a sucker for a well executed hammer set. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at a flare screen from a 5 Out transition. It doesn’t generate the most efficient shot, but as you can see from the video, it is EXTREMELY hard to stop. If you have point guard that can really shoot it, this action can create a ton a wide open looks. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we have a set play sometimes referred to as “moon” action but with a little twist. The twist is a quick point guard duck in before using the stagger screen. I like this design because it has actions happening on both sides of the court at the same time, which keeps the help side occupied. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-4 high alignment. After a wing entry and UCLA screen, the ball is centered and there is an option to use screens on either side for a shooter. If a shot isn’t there off the screen, it’s time for those screeners to seal up for an interior touch. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram/video we look at a set play to get a three pointer. It’s a hammer action, which were always fun to me as a coach to see executed. Rejecting the side ball screen usually sucks the defense in, and allows for the weak side defender to get pinned in. The embedded video shows the set in more detail. Favorite Send to FastDrawIt's always nice to have some sets up your sleeve to get your high level shooter a look from the outside when you need it. This set can be one of those play calls. Against teams that get through screens, it should work well as long as the shooter sets a great back screen. Against teams that switch, it's important that the last screener seal their own defender to free up the shooter. Video clip below. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a zone set using a 1-2-2 alignment. I love the play because if nothing materializes, you are left with a 1-3-1 alignment that plays well against most zones. The ball is entered to the wing, and the wing uses a drag dribble down the sideline to shift the defense. The ball is returned to 1 who dribbles to the other side of the court while reading the defense. The action is a stagger screen with a slip into the middle of the defense. Our primary look is the slip to the middle, but we would take the stagger if the defense didn't cover it. Getting the slip in the middle opens up many options for the offense - shot, kick down, kick out. See More
