Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers "Thumbs Down 25"

Cleveland Cavaliers "Thumbs Down 25"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

David Blatt has been adding new sets almost every game this year with wrinkles off of them. A set that he has run all year with Kevin Love spacing was "Thumbs Down." This set had the bigs cross low and Love would space to the corner, while other big set a high ballscreen for the ballhandler. This series against the Bulls they have ran similar action, only with the shooting guard setting a downscreen for the 5 man and pops to the wing, the big man sets a high ballscreen, in this case, for Kyrie Irving to attack. Basketball Play - Houston Rockets "Elbow Get"

Houston Rockets "Elbow Get"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

The Houston Rockets have hurt teams alot this postseason by utilizing their power forwards as Pick & Roll ballhandlers and forcing the opponents two big men to both defend the Pick & Roll. They have used Josh Smith & Terrance Jones to create easy buckets against both the Mavericks and now the Clippers. They opened up Game 2 with this set and scored multiple times against the Mavericks. The Atlanta Hawks also utilized this set against the Wizards, getting an easy lob. This set was made famous by the Phoenix Suns 7 Seconds or Less offense, naming it "Elbow Get" as they utilized Diaw & Shawn Marion to score off of it often. Rockets get the ball to the power forward at the elbow (or lane line extended) and have Dwight Howard set a ballscreen and roll to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Atlanta Hawks "ATO Elevator"

Atlanta Hawks "ATO Elevator"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

Coach Mike Budenholzer has a great playbook with a variety of plays for different situations. After a timeout in Game 1, he called a nice Elevator set for Kyle Korver, although it was covered well by the Wizards, they still got a decent look from the 3 point line. The set starts off in a Sideline out of Bounds situation and is triggered by the 4 man popping to the top of the key. The inbounder (point guard) sprints down toward the post, and v cuts back to the wing. Korver sets a cross screen for opposite wing and sprints through the elevator screen. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

Normally Curry brings the ball up the floor, but in this set the player they want to try and free up for a layup (often the 3 man such as Barnes or Iguadola) will bring the ball up. The player bringing the ball up will pass to trailing big man and receives a backscreen from Curry, looking to get a layup off the screen is the first option. If the man is covered on the backscreen, Curry then receives a dribble hand off from the big who then rolls to the rim. The second option is great because Curry's man has to help or at least show to prevent a layup, allowing Curry to come off the dribble handoff typically unimpeded. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Pistol Slip vs. Show

Golden State Pistol Slip vs. Show

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

This was a smartly executed play that the Warriors used against the Grizzlies in Game 2. Knowing that the x3 would show against any Pistol Step Up screen, Stephen Curry quickly spun back out of the P/R and reversed the ball to David Lee. Harrison Barnes immediately slipped out of the screen and to the basket for an easy lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies Fist 2 vs. Ice

Memphis Grizzlies Fist 2 vs. Ice

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

Memphis ran this action in Game 2 against Golden State. The "Fist 2" set is a staple of the Chicago Bulls offense using Derrick Rose, and the Grizzlies used it well here against the Warriors, who "Ice" against the Side P/R. The 5 man screens against the Ice, and the 2 man drives hard to occupy x5 on the help. This set works best with a 5 man who can short roll or pop into the pocket created by the Ice, and having a great duck-in 4 man like Zach Randolph to occupy the weakside help works even better! Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

Memphis ran this early offense action in Game 2 versus the Warriors. It features a thru cut by Mike Conley, and several different options branching off. 5 sets a wide pindown for 2 while 1 finishes his thru cut and curls off of 4 on the block. 3 can hit 2 on the pindown, 1 on the thru cut, or 4 sealing for a post up. If none of these options are available, 3 can reverse back to 2 and set up 2-man game with the 5, opening up a whole new set of options. See More
