Basketball Play - Pacer Zipper Slip

Pacer Zipper Slip

Kevin Bruinsma 06/15/2013

The Indiana Pacers love the zipper action to free up #24 Paul George here after he catches the ball #55 Roy Hibbert comes to set the ball screen. They run multiple actions and ball screen spacing out of this zipper set. Here Indiana throws a different look at the Miami Heat and #55 Hibbert slips the screen right to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - NBA Play of the Day June 21: Miami Heat Floppy Action

NBA Play of the Day June 21: Miami Heat Floppy Action

Kevin Bruinsma 06/21/2013

The Miami Heat ran this set for Ray Allen against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. They curled him around a double screen, to create seperation. Once Allen gets to the middle of the paint he slows down and re-evaluates where the defense is and can choose to turn around and run off a stagger or continue and run off the single. Against the Pacers he ran off the single which happened to be Lebron James who dove to the rim after setting his screen. See More

Basketball Play - Heat FT Line Back Screen

Heat FT Line Back Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 06/24/2013

This may be the Miami Heat's most successful offensive set outside of the ball screen. They do a really great job of getting Lebron James a catch right in the middle of the floor. He can drive, shoot, or wait for the action on the weak side to take place. The action is a big screen by 5 (Chris Bosh) on 2 (Dwayne Wade) so all three of the Heat's big 3 are involved. When the 5 man backs off to protect on 2's cut the ball gets passed to Bosh for a shot. If the 2 doesn't help the ball goes to the back cut for Wade. See More

Basketball Play - Heat Iverson Misdirection

Heat Iverson Misdirection

Kevin Bruinsma 06/25/2013

The Miami Heat ran this play to get Lebron James running off an Iverson Cut. Wade who is the 2 man follows James' Iverson cut and dribbles the ball to the top of the key. Miami uses James star power as a mis-direction and as Wade dribbles to the top following James the 5 man sets a cross screen in the lane for Chris Bosh who just got done screening for James on the Iverson cut. Wade turns back and passes to Bosh popping to the cleared out side. See More

Basketball Play - Heat SLOB Elbow Catches

Heat SLOB Elbow Catches

Kevin Bruinsma 06/26/2013

The Miami Heat do a fantastic job of getting the ball to the elbow in pressure/clutch situations. Here are two plays the Heat ran against the Indiana Pacers in the ECF from the Sideline out of bounds to get elbow catches. One entry turns into their most successful play the FT Line Back Screen two man game between Wade & Bosh with Lebron having the ball. The other set was how Miami won G1 as Lebron had an isolation from the elbow. See More

Basketball Play - Heat Zipper Iverson Ball Screen

Heat Zipper Iverson Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 06/27/2013

The Miami Heat run a lot of stuff to get Lebron James a catch in the middle of the floor. Here they use a zipper action to clear out Chalmers or Cole and to get the ball to James. The PG runs off an Iverson cut after giving the ball up to James to clear the side. The 2 man in this case Wade would come ball screen after setting the Iverson and then spread to the opposite side of the floor. If James still hasn't created anything the 4 man, Chris Bosh after setting his Iverson screen would come over and set a ball screen with the entire left side of the floor cleared for a 2 man game. Basketball Play - Back Tip & Convert

Back Tip & Convert

Kevin Bruinsma 06/28/2013

This is a defensive drill that during my three years at Cleveland State we did a multiple times a week. It incorporates a lot of things and teaches/practices fundamentals while letting the guys get after it and be competetive. The back tip and convert drill allows you to learn how to back tip the ball properly and then transition immediatly into offense so you work on your 2 on 1 breaks. The key to this drill is the back tipper needs to sprint, and tip the ball up with his inside hand. Don't reach, just run the floor and tip the ball. A really great defense to offense drill while teaching a unique skill. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Flare, Shuffle, Ball Screen

Spurs Flare, Shuffle, Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/02/2013

This set ran by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals is packed with action. Utilizing the trailing post is the reverse man to swing the ball around the perimeter, they then run the strech 4 man off a flare screen while the 3 gets a shuffle screen from 5. This forces the back side to focus on their own man, the 5 man to protect the hoop on 3's shuffle. 5 then comes and ball screens the 1 man with the defense engaged else where. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Horns Stagger

Spurs Horns Stagger

Kevin Bruinsma 07/03/2013

The Spurs ran a nice variety of stuff out of the classic Horns set. They also loved to do things with a stagger action. Here they got their 2 the ball off a stagger and immediatly into a dribble handoff. This put the defense in a trailing position, and allowed the 5 to slip right to the rim for a basket against the Miami Heat. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Late Clock 3/4 Court

Spurs Late Clock 3/4 Court

Kevin Bruinsma 07/04/2013

Here is the set the San Antonio Spurs ran in Game 5 against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Having only 5 seconds to go 3/4 court on the sideline the Spurs went with a small line up. They put #9 Tony Parker at midcourt, and had #14 Gary Neal run off him first, and then #20 Manu Ginobili. With him setting two screens he was able to pop back to the ball and have a full court iso. Basketball Play - Spurs Misdirection

Spurs Misdirection

Kevin Bruinsma 07/04/2013

A very similiar set to what the Indiana Pacers ran against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals the Spurs ran a misdirection play against the Heat in the NBA Finals. Using the presence of #21 Tim Duncan they made it look like he was getting a cross screen, before #2 Kawhi Leonard turned right back around to set a stagger with #21 Tim Duncan for #20 Manu Ginobili.
