Basketball Play - Harvard DHO Iso

Harvard DHO Iso

Brandon Mullis 08/23/2015

Here is a set play ran by Tommy Amaker at Harvard. A slashing wing/guard would be ideal in the "3" spot in this diagram, with your best shooter as your "2" to force the defense to make a choice to take away the drive (and leave an open shot for 2 in the corner) or put a lot of pressure on 3's defender to keep him from getting to the rim in isolation after coming off the ball screen from 4. Basketball Play - Iverson Cut - 4 Iso

Iverson Cut - 4 Iso

Kevin Bruinsma 07/03/2015

This is a play we ran at Illinois State to get an isolation look for our under sized 4 man against their bigger & slower 4 man. It ended up working out so he could just curl the screen to the rim for a lay-up but the play was originally designed for him to pop to the open side of the floor and play 1 on 1. The great thing about this action is there are so many things you can do out of the base iverson cut. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers "Zipper Down PNR"

Cleveland Cavaliers "Zipper Down PNR"

Gibson Pyper 05/30/2015

David Blatt has been adding new sets almost every single game throughout this season. To start the playoffs he added this new set "Zipper Cross" to try and get Kevin Love a post up in Game 1. Throughout Games 1 & 2 he then ran this set with different counters and options out of it, the main one being a high Pick & Roll for Kyrie Irving to attack out of. The set starts off with a Zipper cut (typically by Kyrie Irving) and then the bigs cross, looking to get Kevin Love to seal out of it. If the post is not open or if Blatt wants Kyrie to attack out of the Pick & Roll, the 5 man continues high and Love exits to the corner to space the floor. They have also ran this for Lebron to post & then counter that with him flashing to the Elbow for an isolation. See More

Basketball Play - SDSU Box Drive

SDSU Box Drive

Wes Kosel 03/21/2015

SDSU used this play to get an isolation look at the elbow with the 4 man. The play starts with 2 making the first cut to the opposite corner and 3 stepping out to the right corner. The point guard then makes the entry pass to 4 at the elbow and clears out to the left wing. After 1 clears, 4 looks to drive right to the basket looking for a lay-up or foul. See More

Basketball Play - Release

Release

Adam Spinella 03/16/2015

Coach Krzyzewski has had some fantastic post players over the years. From Elton Brand to Jahlil Okafor, Christian Laettner to Shelden Williams, all these players could convert at an extremely high percentage in a post-isolation situation. Coach K, in keeping with an up-tempo style of offense, got the ball into the post quickly for a clear-out situation in a play he's run for years called "release". This is a great action for a team with a dominant post scorer. If you teach 5 to engage in contact as soon as his man helps off the flex screen, he can get great, deep scoring position and have a chance to get to the free throw line or bang in a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Iso Options

Iso Options

Wes Kosel 03/16/2015

Here are two isolation options for when you need 2 points at the end of a game or if you have a dominant player that you want to get into isolation. These plays come from Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis. Ellis has won over 600 games in his career and has been at several programs in the southeast. This year, his Chanticleers are 24-9 and will face up against #1 seed Wisconsin in Omaha on Friday. In the first option, Ellis gets his 2-guard open with a down screen and a dribble across the floor by his point guard. The goal is to get his guard the ball around the free-throw line or elbow. Once 2 has the ball, he faces up and lets 5 clear out to the corner. 2 looks to drive to the basket. In the second option, Ellis gets his 4 man the ball with a simple down screen out of the horns set. The point guard dribbles over towards the right wing and passes to 4. Once 4 has the ball around the top of the key, 5 clears out and lets 4 take his man 1 on 1 to the basket. This play works well if you have a slower defender on either player. In addition, if the other defenders help on the penetration, you will have a good luck at a kick-out for a 3-point shot. See More
