07/09/2013The Orlando Magic ran this simultaneous pin down action yesterday out of the horns set. This is a very simple play to put into your system that gives you multiple scoring options. Options: 1. While 4 help defenders are occupied with the pindowns 1 has the option to take his man on the dribble to the rim or pull-up jumper. 2. Hit 2 or 3 on the pop or curl for a shot. 3. If 2 or 3 do not make a scoring play, have the big set a side or step-up pick & roll for them. 4. If X4 or X5 over help on the pin down, slip your bigs to the rim for a lob. 5. Have 2 and 3 come off the pindowns and set up in a horns set for pick & roll options for 1. See More

Here they got their 2 the ball off a stagger and immediatly into a dribble handoff. This put the defense in a trailing position, and allowed the 5 to slip right to the rim for a basket against the Miami Heat. See More

Having a great shooter setting and running off screens forces the defense to provide a lot of help on the screens and be very active. Rolling James down the lane put a lot of pressure on the defense and it had to pull in leaving Haslem for the open jumper. See More

Setting two different angled screens is very effective, especially when the opponent is flat hedging the screens. Further more, setting the screens lower and lower also makes it more difficult to guard because make the rotations off of shooters to help much longer. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 9: Miami Heat Horns Weak
06/09/2013The Heat ran this play in the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers. The actions is very similar to the play posted here http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/2187/play-Elbow-Weak-Stagger The difference is instead of 4 screening 1 into a 2 man game with 3, 4 turns back to set the ball screen. Haslem's man was zoning the middle of the lane to protect a back door cut, a hard curl, or a slip. By having Haslem set the screen there was no type of help coverage on the ball screen and James had a wide open 17 ft. jump shot. See More

NBA Play of the Day June 8 : MIami Heat Horns Down 25
06/08/2013Miami opened the 3rd quarter of their game 5 win over the Pacers with this elbow set. Utilizing down screens, hand offs, and ball screens Miami was able to open up driving lanes. The Pacers won the 1st and 4th quarter and tied the 2nd quarter but lost the 3rd quarter by 17 points. The Heat player movement, ball movement, shot making and offensive execution was excellent in this 30 point 3rd quarter. See More
