Basketball Play - Drill Progression - Crossover Step

Drill Progression - Crossover Step

Randy Sherman 05/05/2017

An example of "phasing" a drill focusing on a simple fundamental - the crossover step and finishing at the rim - and making it game like in the final phase. NOTE: Phase C is omitted because it would look the same as Phase B excpet that X1 could touch either cone after the flip. Thus it has a live element for Player 1 would not know what crossover step to use beforehand. For help with phase planning your drills.... See More

Basketball Play - Continuous Blast-Cuts

Continuous Blast-Cuts

Joel Hueser 09/13/2016

A good motion offense is hard to guard; all the while maintains good floor balance and spacing. This is done by cutting and replacing. Continuous blast cuts is a two line shooting drill that teaches just that. Our primary motion cut after passing off the top is toward the basket (aka basket cut). When that happens it is important to fill the open spot from the weakside with a blast cut. In doing so we like to emphasize the following: 2 Step Rule - Take your defender two steps toward the basker before blasting to the top. Recruit the Glute - Blast off of your baseline foot. Change of Speed - We like to say go in slow and come out fast. Outside Hand - Provide and pass to the outside hand away from the defense. Inside Pivot - We teach the inside pivot. On the catch, square up to the basket and look RPA (rim, post, action). This drill progresses through four phases: Catch & Shoot Shot Fake Blow-by Foot Fake Crossover Back-cut This is a great team shooting drill to incorporate at all levels: elementary ages to professional! Basketball Play - Side PNR Pop

Side PNR Pop

Dana Beszczynski 11/09/2013

Tbis is a set play run by the Pittsburg Panthers in their pre-season game against Slippery Rock. It is a low stack action utilizing the side PNR. What makes this play so effective is the slip action by the 4 man and the 5 coming right in behind setting a good ball screen. With 5 rolling to the basket, x4's defender is forced to help leaving 4 wide open in the corner for the throwback pass and subsequent open 3 pt shot. Jamie Dixon does a good job with his offensive sets and this play is an effective way to read the defense and take advantage of a help situation. See More

Basketball Play - Creating Space Floaters / Hooks

Creating Space Floaters / Hooks

Kyle Gilreath 07/17/2013

This drill is just an extension of the Rim Finishes Drill I posted earlier today. This is a great series of moves that every player should add to their arsenal to work on to perfect. The ability to change direction and finish around the rim are key elements for players who want to play basketball at a high level. When I performed this drill I had each player make each finish 3 times before moving onto the next move. You can adjust this accordingly as you see fit. See More

Basketball Play - Second Defender Scoring Drill

Second Defender Scoring Drill

Randy Brown 02/08/2013

This drill is a "Turnover-Killer." The drill presents a combination of 1. getting open and catching, 2. facing the basket while ripping the ball through and jab stepping, 3. Driving around defender, 4. Making decision to shoot or drive by second defender, and finishing the play with a basket. It also creates toughness and ball security. You can also add a player at the basket with a pad to creat contact on the finish. See More
