Basketball Play - Ohio State Horns-Flex

Ohio State Horns-Flex

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Ohio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More

VCU 5

Andrew Greer 03/19/2015

Shaka Smart used this spread look that he called "5" from the sidelines against Ohio State when they went to a 2-3 zone in the 2nd half have of their Round 2 matchup. At this point in the game VCU was playing with no true post against the OSU zone. Utilizing a high ball screen on the top of the zone, VCU was able to attack the middle with little resistance. When the guard stepped down to help Doug Brooks hit multiple 3's from the 2 position in the offense. Ohio State switched back to man after the barrage of Brooks 3's following middle penetration from VCU guards. See More

Utah switched all screens which caused issues for the Lumberjacks but they were still able to get quality shots. This early offense uses flex concepts to clear one side of the floor for a dribble handoff. Stephen F. Austin utilizes a 5 that can attack the rim off the dribble to allow for multiple options out of the set. See More

WVU Triple Screen BLOB

Andrew Greer 03/20/2015

West Virginia continued to stretch their 1st half lead out with the BLOB set making a wide open 3 from the ball side wing. I have seen this play used by multiple teams with various wrinkles. In this set the 3 seals or opens up to the rim. In most cases, one of the bigs 4/5 will dive toward the rim after the initial double screen. See More

This simple but effective set clears out the ball side of the floor allowing the stagger screen to do its job without being impeded by help side defenders. Iowa Screen the Screener

Andrew Greer 03/21/2015

This Iowa Hawkeyes set is a twist on a set that most coaches either have in their playbook or have seen on the court before. The Hawkeyes used a back screen cross screen combo to get a wide open dunk on the opposite block. In their screen the screener action the initial screener is a shooter who will receive the second screen to get to the corner. See More
