About This Play/Drill

This half-court set from IBCA Assistant Executive Director and Reavis HS coach, Jim Tracy is a great way to get the ball inside from a 1-4 High alignment.

  • On Hammer, the 1 enters the ball to either post at the "elbow", in this case the 5. 2 immediately makes a back door cut to the rim. 5 must take a look over outside shoulder and pass to 2 for a layup if open. 3 must move to the baseline for better spacing.

  • 1 screens down immediately for 4, who steps out to the top of the key for ball reversal. 3 moves toward the lane to set defender up with an L cut, enabling 3 to catch the reversal pass at the wing. 2 widens out after not getting the back door pass.

  • Upon 4's reversal of the ball to 3, 1 steps toward the basket, then back screens for 5. 3 must look to the basket for 5 for the layup. 2 must be active on the weak side to eliminate any help from defender.

  • 4 reverses the ball to 3 then looks to screen down on X1. Our 1, after screening for 5, comes off 4's downscreen, looking for the three point shot. 2 must move to the baseline to occupy the weak side help. 4 should slip to the ball side elbow if defender shows out on the cut by 1, thus creating a High-Low with 5.
