The defense starts on the side of the offense. The offensive player drives it to the rim. 3 cannot stop the ball because he is defending the same-side corner and must get to his man. The 5 steps over in help and the 2 steps inside of the 5 to take him away. The 4 is playing free safety, reading the eyes of the offensive player trying to get a steal. He would take whoever the ball is passed to first and the 2 would take the other offensive player.
