About This Play/Drill

Pre-practice/warmup drill to get your players moving and active. Teaching them to be aggressive and attack the ball in the open court.

  • Basketball Play - Tap outs
  • Basketball Play - Tap outs
  • Ball handler starts two steps off the baseline. Defense begins on the baseline. Once the offense puts the ball on the floor, defender can take off chasing the ball. Players can also start on coaches command. Defender sprints up the floor and taps the ball out before ball handler gets to half court line.

  • The offensive player handles the ball in the same hand all the way to half court. This keeps the drill competitive. Defender must have an “all out effort” mentality to get the ball. Teach players to tap the ball inbounds or to a teammate. Coach or student coaches are at half court ready to catch basketballs that get hit and start the next group on the baseline.
