About This Play/Drill

Pistol is a great early break set with multiple read options that the Denver Nuggets use.

  • PG hits 2/3.
     

  • PG cuts over the top of 2/3. 2/3 pitches it back to PG. Trailing 4/5 sprints into screen.
     

  • 4/5 screens 2/3 to top of the key.
     

  • 4/5 continues on to set a ballscreen for PG. PG attacks the ballscreen. 4/5 rolls after setting. Weakside 4/5 ducks in.
     

  • PG hits 2/3.
     

  • PG cuts over the top of 2/3. 4/5 sprints into screen. 2/3 fakes handoff to PG and comes off ballscreen. Weakside 4/5 ducks in.
     

  • 2/3 looks to hit duck in, 4/5 rolling or PG filling back out of corner.
     

  • PG hits 2/3.
     

  • PG cuts over the top of 2/3. 2/3 pitches to PG. 4/5 sprints into a screen.
     

  • 4/5 screens for 2/3 to top of the key. PG looks to throw back to 2/3. 4/5 dives after setting.
     

  • On 2/3's catch the weakside guard lifts to the wing. 2/3 reverses.
     

  • 4/5 UCLA screens fo 2/3 to the mid-post.
     

  • 2/3 UCLA cuts and then clears opposite. PG lifts out of corner. 4/5 then sets a ballscreen for 2/3. Guard attacks the ballscreen.
     

  • If we hit 2/3 on the UCLA cut...
     

  • ...then 4/5 pins in for 2/3 to top of the key and then dives. 2/3 is isolated in post and looks to take advantage of a possible mismatch.
     

  • PG brings in transition. 2/3 sets a step up ballscreen for PG. Trailing 4/5 then screens for 2/3 to top of the key. PG can hit 2/3.
     

  • 4/5 then turns back into a high ballscreen. Low 4/5 moves to opposite block. 2/3 attacks the ballscreen. 4/5 rolls. Weakside 2/3 fills out of corner.
