About This Play/Drill

This is a nice transiton set that I have seen on countless NBA, WNBA and Mens and Womens NCAA teams for a couple years now. There are many options out of it and have only included a few. There are ones that include back side staggers, two man games, double post ball screens etc... This is a simple secondary set you can put into your offense that is a little more complicated than the standard transition drag screen.

  • The 1 pushes the ball up the floor in transition into a dribble handoff with the 2 on the wing.

  • The trailing big(5) then sets an on ball screen for the 2. There is also a weak side pin down occuring to get the 3 open for an isolation on the pinch post.

  • The trailing big(5) then sets an on ball screen for the 2. The 5 player then rolls to the basket. You want to also lift the 1 from the corner to open up the paint and get rid of back side help. There is also a weak side pin down occuring to get the 3 open for an isolation on the pinch post.

  • In option 3, Player 2 passes the trailing big.

  • 5 dribble hand offs to 2 on the wing

  • 4 then sets a pick and roll around the extended elbow area. This option is good if you have a big that can hit the pick and pop action (especially for 3).

  • 1 dribble enters to the wing and pushes the 2 to the corner. 1 passes to 2 in the corner

  • 1 sets a down screen for the 2 in the corner. 5 then sets another screen for the 2 to get open and create off the dribble in the middle of the floor. There is also the down screen on the weakside of the floor with the 4 and 3.
