About This Play/Drill

This is a defensive drill we run regularly in practice

  • Basketball Play - Serbian Closeout Drill

We do this drill on a regular basis.

X1 Starts with the ball and passes it to X2

X2 passes to X3 and X3 passes it to 1

As soon as X1 passes to X2 they begin to sprint to guard 1. The object is for them to be closing out as the ball arrives.

X2 guards 2, X3 guards 3 and X4 guards 4

We use this to get into our shell drill concepts and we often add rules.

The rule variations could be that 1 must skip it to 4 before the offense is live. We have also made a pass rule where the offense must pass a certain number of times before they can score.

Another variation is to add a screen that you may see from an opponent. For example, 2 may sprint and set a ball screen for 1 or 2 and 3 set a staggered double screen for 4.
